Hey,
i recently bought CSS at a local store, i installed i run it everything goes fine. 300 FPS, but once i start a game it drops to 1 and then raises slowy to 3 max. My laptop passes minimum system requirements. also i set everything on low in video options, (though recomended is with most things on high). so i searched google and i got this : http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthread.php?t=68214
This guys seems to have the same chipset as me. so i did what he tells ( add +mat_forcehardwaresync 0 to command line of CSS)
My FPS raised to 6 with that. so i got to the forums again and in another post he made he said to add "+mat_forcemanagedtextureintohardware 0 -steam -game cstrike -console -dxlevel 7"
No changes, but now when i go to inside rooms (like hallways) my FPS raises to 50-70. from the moment i get a view of the outside it drops again. really weird. because my hardware is good enough. I need help! |

I mean menu is 300 fps. I'm having a Toshiba Satelite.
Anyway, When i play custom maps i run them fine. 100 FPS, so il play Custom only from now on 
it hink its because of the detail put in default maps. i think it cant handel to much things at a time. |

Scarface, before posting a post like that, think about the only thing to cause that....(First starting up/Black screen/etc) I get 260FPS Average with an 7600GT and with an 8800GT 256Mb I stay above 300, so its not going to be hard for a laptop to sustain an average of around 100+. max_dxlevel 90 is a preset command dependant on the video hardware installed which CSS will detect when you enter the game. Secondly, do NOT set everything to the "recommended" *s. People only do that when they are making Source movies, etc.
Ingame, you can do a few things, my highest recommendation would be first to try the CEVO config. We use it a lot in CSS, and referring to we, I mean teams that play competitively or even pub clans/teams that have decent knowledge to know to use it.
I recommend using that config, and opening steam, right clicking on CSS, click Properties, then click on Set Launch Options. And input this, "-dxlevel 81" without the quotes. For Source, you won't notice a difference running in DX 8.1 unless you play highly detailed custom maps.
If you are wondering how to use the CEVO config after you've downloaded. Unzip it, then rename CEVO Default Config.cfg to config.cfg and CEVO FPS Config.cfg to autoexec.cfg
Now, open the following folder,
C:\ProgramFiles\Valve\Steam\SteamApps\<username>\counter-strike source\cstrike\cfg.
If you see a config.cfg and autoexec.cfg already there, back them up elsewhere and place in the CEVO files that you renamed into that folder. After doing so, do the step about using -dxlevel 81 above, and then play. You should get an FPS boost out of that, and at least be able to play the game. I cannot make any garauntees, but it should help. If all else, I can direct you to Casey's Config which of all things, should boost your FPS to at least 40+. |

Yeah i did that. nothing. b ut everything changed because i sold my laptop and bought ymself a brand new computer for only € 350 with an 8500 GT |

It works like a charm with everything maxed out 
The people who bought it didn't even know where they could fine a start button when i told them to click it. so i'm not worrying about them playing games |

It has
an Nvidia Geforce 8500 GT
AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 4200
1024 RAM.
I bought this WITH monitor wireless keyboard and wireless mouse and speakers for only € 350
 I'm planning on upgrading it later |
