And how is this gonna be made happen? You gonna be the strongarm, Goober. Use pure faction or else...grrr 
I play RF at varying times during the day throughout the week, and I don't see a majority of servers clamouring to use Pure Faction and some that will absolutely refuse despite all the hype of how great it is and how it's gonna regenerate the game.
I personally am using the Pure Faction client, but I wouldn't count on it taking over the game. I guess my glass is half empty. |

As far as I see it , Pure is still in the BETA Stage, when Its totally bug free maybe all servers will use it , But I doubt it very much , not every RF player or server Host comes to this site , So I think Pure will either make or break RF , unless the word is spread much more around the globe, Just My opinion !
Either way Pure is a great thing , but not for all ! |

As I've said before, L4Y is NOT Pure's "base". Pure has been around to pretty much every RF forum there is. More than half of the RF community will never come to L4Y. Pure was on many of these sites before here. It's being spread pretty well |

I think that the biggest problem would be if Trot has used ASM to write his code this would mean most of it would have to be re written as ASM is not very good for cross platform development.

Not me. I still start my game using lazyban 130 and will continue to do so. The only way for me to switch to pure faction would be if 3 of my favorite server would switch and I might mention one of them is a 1.1v server.
I wish you guys luck with the patch but I doubt that many servers will continue to run it for a long time. The problem is that it's not an official patch. That was the problem with 130v, it wasn't official. Many players don't even know how to install custom maps. Many players don't know where to get custom maps. Many players can't even spell custom. This is where the problem lies. As far as this mod not being hack proof, that isn't true. To date, there hasn't been a program that hasn't been hacked. 
I for one, if I still ran a server, I would not use Pure Faction for the very reason that I know new players would not know about it and the server would mostly remain empty. Then again, when I ran a server. Most players that joined when I was playing were friends that I played nightly with. Sure we got cheaters in the server (once in a while). It's didn't really matters as much as I would (or any other person that had rcon) would ban the cheater without a warning. You want to get a point across, that is the way to do it. NO WARNINGS! If you played this game as long as I have, you can understand why I feel this way...Even though I don't play the game as much as I use to. Then again, I don't play or get online as much as I use to. Things change, priorities change.
One of "my" favorite server goes beyond just banning. If the cheater keeps coming back. His IP address or string gets added to the firewall, where his access is block to even seeing the server.
Please don't take this as a personal attack on the fine work that you are doing and what you are trying to accomplish. My hope still is that everyone uses it but if hope worked for anything, there wouldn't be any more wars and famine in this world.  |

Light years ahead of you. The unfortunate point of this post is that TrotSkie is incapable of porting Pure to the Mac platform at this time even if I sent him a Mac to tinker on. From my previous experience of pushing Red Faction on Mac related forums, I seriously doubt that any Unix masters would respond favourably to a conversion request.
Steveands, because I have a soft spot in my heart for Mac players - I would never run a server that excludes my favourite computer platform.  |

Even if a Mac version is not possible im sure there would be a way of enabling the macs to join these severs.
I didn't think it was possible to run the Iron Sun Conversion mod on a Mac for quite a long time then finally worked it out and what you know we now have a working ISM for the Mac.
Maybe its just a matter of the PF server checking to see if you are running on Mac and enable spawn?
or if we could just find a way for the Mac RF to load the VPP file? - although I had a look at the VPP file in Builder and there didn't seem to be much in it and there are no table files.

you can tell what type of OS a computer is running reasonably easily, I don't see why the server shouldn't be able to tell. So I should think that COULD be an avenue to go down. Downside is that way we are leaving Macs able to cheat still, so something WOULD need to be coded to still monitor the Macs. |

The mac version of RF is very similar to the PC version. The VPP files are identical with the exception of the audio files.
I'm not sure if it is even possible to glitch or cheat on the Mac version. I don't how to glitch or mod
(except for running full conversion mods from the command line).
I know that if you try to join a normal RF server with say for e.g. the Hive mod running it will say that you cant join because you are running the Hive mod.
I don't know of any way to join a server with a mod enabled unless the server is running the exact same mod. |
