Running them eithout steam at all defies the purpose of steam.
If steam slows down your PC - It shouldn't be able to run any steam games anyway. Get an upgraded PC

My friend once brought half life 2 episode 1 on ebay and it was a copy but he didn't need steam to play it. I am sure i did see a program once where u could extract steam games and play them without steam but i don't know what it was called. Does any1 know it.

I would like that too, I've got it on my laptop, and if I wanna play it on the road, then I WANNA! Usually only access to dial or nothing when I'm not at home.

Well if thats true, then he did something illegal. There's no legal way to get any steam games (Besides VERY old versions of Half-Life and console versions) without steam.

There is away but i can't remember how to do it.....But in Online Mode you can only join NON VAC servers which is something you don't want to do with all the cheaters that visit them
Im trying to find whats the difference between my Steam CS1.6 and my non steam 1.6 (i use the Non steam version at school to do LANs and at home on my Brothers computer to do lans also)
If you already have the games on steam there is no way to launch them without having steam running.
As Goober has stated any Valve games that came out prior to Steam being released can be run as stand-alone games ... but it sounds to me like you have the steam versions, in which case the answer to your question is no.

Any other "methods" of using steam games without the steam client are illegal.
