Another thing that is impossible is player HUD messages. Despite the tutorials, they do not work

Ill check the boxes.

1) Have I named the text file the <level name>_text.tbl? Yes, the level is called Level1-1A and the text file is called Level1-1A_text.tbl.

2) Am I running the map as a mod? Yes, inside the mods folder I have created a folder called Level1-1A. Inside this folder is a VPP with both the .RFL and the .TBL file inside, and the .TBL is also inside the mod folder.

3) Is my table file set up correctly? According to the official single player game tables, yes.

0 ""
En: "Press Use to pickpocket the guard."
Gr: "(gr)Press Use to pickpocket the guard."
Fr: "(fr)Press Use to pickpocket the guard."

4) Is my message event set up correctly with the correct trigger? I have the message ID set to 0 and the bottom checkbox is ticked, with the persona 'the instructor'. I am using a trigger_event but have tried with an auto trigger and a trigger door. The triggers were all linked correctly to the message event.

And this message isn't working. What is wrong?

Ok, I apoligise in advance if this sounds like im patronising you, im not its just I didnt know how in-depth to make it. So didnt want to miss anything

STEP ONE - Setting up the events

Trigger->Message->Delay->Message...etc...

Trigger Properties (door trigger)
Resets = 1
Trigger Resets after = 0.05 (redundant really)

Message Properties
Delay = 0.20
HUD Persona = Hendrix
Play as HUD persona = True

Delay Properties
Delay = 3.00

(only listed altered properties)

STEP TWO - Check naming conventions

EXAMPLENAME.rfl = Level
EXAMPLENAME_text.txt = Voice Dialogue

STEP THREE - Text file layout

0""
En: "Blue Fish! Come in Blue Fish!"
GR: "BlueFish! Come in Blue Fish!"
Fr: "BlueFish! Come in Blue Fish!"

1""
En: "I heard what had happened to the area you were in over the Radio, I thought you were dead!"
GR: "I heard what had happened to the area you were in over the Radio, I thought you were dead!"
Fr: "I heard what had happened to the area you were in over the Radio, I thought you were dead!"

STEP FOUR - Folder structure

Place Level VPP inside Mod folder:
C:\Games\Red Faction\Mods\Op_BF
Place EXAMPLENAME_text.txt into VPP with level. SAVE (use VPPbuilder)

STEPFIVE - Commandline

alter your rf.exe (whatever your using to run RF) add to the target parameter:
-mod Op_BF -level EXAMPLENAME

________________
END

thats what I did and mine works. Let me know if it still isnt working.

Fantastic. I think the misleading thing in most guides is the placement of the VPP file. It works when I MOVE the VPP file into the mod folder, NOT COPIED from the /single folder to the mod folder!

However the message must be a HUD persona message. Those little reminder notes that appear in the middle of the HUD can be seen in the training level but it looks like that cannot be done.

Many thanks Beatonator.

no problems Glad I could help.

Never tried to do the emssages that appear within Training Surely they should be achieveable somehow... maybe not via this method though
