Red Faction will more than likely run fine under Vista. There are, however, a few occasions where it won't without some help. Try this:

1. Open the start menu and scroll to your Red Faction shortcut.
2. Right-click the shortcut and select properties.
3. In the properties dialog select the compatibility tab.
4. On the compatibility tab check "run in compatibility mode."

The default settings should otherwise be fine; it should be set to "Windows XP Service Pack 2." One more thing, you may have to follow the above steps for the RF.exe file in your Red Faction directory (C:GamesRedFaction by default) as well.

Nope Im Afraid there is no version of Red Faction that runs on Vista. You need to download a few things to make RF work with Vista. Im not sure what that is, but if you use google and search "Red Faction on Vista" you might find some answers

*This is why I Recommend anyone to stick to Windows XP, then you will not have these problems that cause you to install loads of apps that you do not need!*

What kind of problem is it that you have with RF?

Does it crash or give you some weird graphics problem or is it that it doesn't even start?

Well, I didn't have to do hardly anything to make RF work on Vista. Just run in compatibility mode (XP Service Pack 2) and click "Run as Administrator", although you shouldn't even have to do that. Also, are you running dxwindowforce? Maybe try closing some programs, uninstall/reinstall, or maybe even your DirectX isn't up to date.

How could his DirectX not be up to date, he is on Vista!

Get the latest Graphics card drivers from AMD/ATI it might fix the problem

Hmm, he did not mention his graphics card because most Laptops do not have one except built in on the Mother Board. His Graphics could be some weird custom built on-board one that comes with Drivers on a CD.

I want him to post me information about his computer.

Hmm I have a better idea, Download Sandra. SisSoft Sandra can scan your computers hardware and tell you everything about them

Do you have a dual-core processor? This is beginning to sound like a CPU issue rather than it being Vista's fault.
