Problem: Red allowing detail brush to act as an ordinary brush
when its checked on is detail !
Cause: Well.... It could be a portal somewhere affecting the brush world properties.
In 3D view window, the multi-storey building brush shows up as red when you click on it and you can hollow out airbrushes in it and they will form holes inside it and it behaves just like an ordinary brush. But in the 2D viewport window the brush is displayed correctly as green....
Here's where the anomanly becomes more apparent. As you get up higher to the top
of the red tower, the brush loses its solid properties and it's like stepping into thin air. If you move the camera closer up to the tower with the arrow keys then it suddenly vanishes as if it's not there, but down on the ground and lower levels, the tower remains visible........ So I cannot put mercs or anything else up in the tower because of this anomanly, so i put them down on the lower levels......
It seems to be one of those weird bugs... You're not supposed to beable to cut any holes in detail brushes !!
Here's a couple of screenshots of the outdoors map I'm working on...

No, just the red tower itself tries to vanish as you get near up to it...., The bottom of it is half connected to the rest of the brush world as the bottom of it forms part of the ceiling inside
the complex as this is a multi-level map.
It is a detailed map
I might do another map similar to it, but instead of having it running 45 degrees from one end or the other... I might make it 360, go all the way around in a complete circle to create a outside circle complex and then you got plenty of room to do the inside of the complex..... Base and market places, trade items, waypoints for other entities to walk around the complex and a huge landing pad with stacked cargo in the center of the complex for
ships, ect..
Red should beable to do an inner circle complex if it can do outside buildings like this.
This map was only a test run to see what it can do..... |

Perhaps you've reached a limit to RED? With all that detail it wouldn't surprise me if you hit the face or brush limit in RED and is acting up because of it. |

When i saw this topic, 2 things came to mind...
1. You checked "Is Detail" but forgot to press the "Update" button.
2. You have it as detail already, but it is still an air brush. Check to see if its solid or air.
If it anything other than that then right now, i have no idea what's causing it. |

I have a funny feeling that you may have not built the top of the tower inside an Air brush.
If you use the method of creating your sky box by right clicking on a texture and ticking "Show Sky", then I defently think the top half of your tower is not inside a airbrush.
This would generally create an Out-of-level effect where sometimes, the level disappears when your outside the level. |

I simply used the extrude tool to make this level by hollowing the inside-out of the solid world to create the multi-storey complex.........This is a powerful way of creating outside
buildings in Red, it not only saves face count but gives a good overall effect... Then i
just flagged the outer 'shell' left over as sky because I didn't need it no more... This
creates the outdoors effect....... I may do a circle complex next....
This means you can walk around the complex, go inside it
It has 4 levels altogether. I did not build the tower inside a big air brush. I did the tower
different to the rest of the level, that's prob why I getting this strange thin air effect.
I just simply made the tower brush and dragged it up there, it is just a
solid detail brush, it is connected to the other brushes which is one
giant air brush set to detail.
That's why it shows up as red in the 3d viewport window and green in
all the others because I'm making an outdoors level, not indoors so
for some reason Red is allowing me to cut more stuff into the
green detail air brush which I guess Red allows hollowing out of
detailed air brushes....
I've just put in the roof, so now you can walk on top around the
tower. But I couldn't put all the roof over the other part of the
complex but this will do. There's a few guards up there now..
This place is heavily under guard.
For this detailed map, Here are Red's results on how
far I've reached towards the limits..
I do want someone to test it out though.
Perhaps I could do with a few more portals....
Chopping portal: 3/3
Cleaning final geometry...
Building rooms...
Fixing up texture uvs for ps2...
Had to add 17 faces to fix ps2 tiling.
Fixing any t-joints...
Fixed 107 t-joints.
Checking for holes...
Found 0 holes
Brushes: 92
Portals: 3
Rooms: 43
Faces: 4245/10500
Face Vertices: 18294/50400
Vertices: 4730/13 |

You always need an Airbrush for the inside of your level. Weapons outside the level cannot be fired and will not produce damage unfortunally. |

Quoting goober | 1. You checked "Is Detail" but forgot to press the "Update" button. |
You don't have to press the "Update" button at all... "Spacebar" (Rebuild) does the same thing anyway... |

Or right click while a brush is selected and go to Properties. then Tick "Is Detail" then click OK is another way you can do it. |

Yes, I made the level so that if you fall off the edge of the building you can't fire your weapons, but if you stay within the boundaries inside the edge you can use your weapons. |
