Hmmm. Well I am sure there is a way to make it work, no matter what your new hardware is. I can imagine that folks will stop by and offer some tips and advice. Since you have posted regarding your predicament, I presume you really don't want to give up on RF subconsciously.

1. Set RF to Windows 98 compatibility
2. If it is a dual core processor, designate RF to run on one processor.
3. Turn off HyperThreading

Anyone else have any help? I am on a Mac and am unqualified for PC action.

The 8800 cards have been rendered useless for RF im afraid if u really want too play get yourself an old PCI card And set RF to use that card

Sure its a pain in the butt to change the monitor back and forth every time u want too play but meh i would do anything too be able too play RF again

This is tragic.

Even after making a casual internet search - it looks like there is no hope.

8800 was mentioned in this thread too: http://redfaction.levels4you.com/forum.l4y?do=view&t=174696

One of the many reasons I'm a loyal ATi / AMD fan; the new NVidia cards simply aren't backwards compatible. Maybe there'll be a fix in updated drivers, but for now, shame on them for forcing us to play new games.

yea i dunno if ATi chipsets are the best, but im betting they will be ... AMD bought out ATi because they want to bridge the GPU CPU gap since their products are mainly sold to PC enthusiasts ...

why they didn't keep dealing with Nvidia just baffles me ...

heh, ATi only wishes that were true. nVidia are the more mainstream gpus for enthusiasts everywhere. The only good thing about ATi I suppose, is that rather than taking nVidia's approach at complex pixel creation of many simple pixels, they developed creation of complex pixels within a pixel itself. Saves on rendering time for a few games, such as Half-Life 2 due to ATi's gpu structure.

I actually kinda wish ATi hadn't stopped trying to compete with the 8800GTX, if they hadn't, then I'm sure prices would've dropped for it, along with the 8800GTS.

And AMD is no longer the "big prospect" in enthusiast eyes due to the achitecture of the Intel Core 2 Duo.

And as for the 8800/HD2900 issue with RF, unless drivers come out for either to support Red Faction, I doubt RF will be playable on the new range of cards.

ATi and AMD both have a history of coming out on top, they're only in a small slump right now. From what I've heard AMD's working on a new CPU/GPU structure that'll actually make onboard video a competitive choice for gaming. Sure NVidia has the upper hand ATM, but ATi as a whole is also much, much cheaper than NVidia.

Not another ATI vs Nvidia war... You animals...

Anyhow, your solution, buy a cheat 200 dollar laptop or something and that should be able to run RF. Just like naraku KOTB said.
