Single Player HUD messages are giving me a headache... because they wont work.
As far as I know the Trigger>Message setup is fine. Trigger Event is linked to a Message event that is suppose to display Unknown HUD message "0".
The table looks like this:
0 ""
En: "Mathis? Can you hear me?...."
Gr: "(gr)Mathis? Can you hear me?...."
Fr: "(fr)Mathis? Can you hear me?...."
And I added the table to the VPP using VPPBUILDER and I ran it using RFLauncher.... What am I missing?
Tried using "HUD Messages" tutorial from red technologies and still no closer to a solution. I also opened up the first SP level from the levels1.vpp file and tried to emulate the HUD message events and setup there, still.... nothing.
Even tried running it as a mod: "-mod dungeon -level dungeon". Still nothing. |

Red Doom and Lego Mod are 2 projects that come to mind which include new custom HUD msg's... So looking at how they did It would be 1 solution..

I beleive you had the right Idea running it as a mod.. I also beleive It's required for custom hud messages to work..
Other than that, Can't help much more.. since I haven't done them myself yet.. But all the best to ya! |

Hmmm, ive been told about these hud messages... I believe that you place a text file in your VPP. you can gain a copy of how the text file is layed out just by extracting one from your levels1.vpp , levels2.vpp and levels3.vpp. They are the files like L10S2_text.tbl files.
Basically extract one, remove all the text and replace your text in them.
When you are creating your level and you add a HUD Message event in the level, go into its properties and set the ID of the message matching one in the text file. All the messages in the text file are given an ID so make sure you assign the correct ID to the correct messages.

The numbers at the beginning, before the sound file, is the ID number. |

ummmm thanks, but thats not the problem, because thats all stuff that i understand. the problem is that these messages dont show up when i run the level. i have double and triple checked the setup.

There is somthing that im missing as far as the running the map., i guess...
Damn, i hope i wont have to resort to voice acting... |

I was hoping someone had one that could help me figure out HUD Messages... but apparently people are more interested in commenting on my problem than actually helping with it...

I can't get the Hud personal text message to pop up for me either.
Doing a custom single player map.
Triggers:
Tried Trigger Auto - nothing
Tried the Door Trigger - nothing
Tried the Event Trigger - nothing
It dosen't appear to be recognizing the triggers
Setup of message event:
Message Id:10
Speaker UID: 0
Hud Persona: Eos
Play as Hud Persona message ( box is checked.)
Setup of Text Dialogue
10 ""
En: "Detrilium Plant 5. Restricted Area. Do not use any weapons near the pipes."
Gr: "Detrilium Plant 5. Restricted Area. Do not use any weapons near the pipes."
Fr: "Detrilium Plant 5. Restricted Area. Do not use any weapons near the pipes."
I'm running the level from Red and It should just pop up and display the hud text
while testing the map. But no hud or text message is showing.
Or don't the Hud messages show until you actually add them manually
with VPPBUILD? If that's the case, what a hassel this editor is.
They should still show up when testing the level in the editor? |

thanks ninja, works like a charm when i run it as a mod.
thinking about playing around with some simple weapon modifications to implement as well... since im already going the modification route... wish i still had 3ds max 7... |
