can someone explain how to add costun wav files to a weapon. because so far all i'v found out is simply copying the name of my sound to the "$Fly Sound:" causes the game to crash.

For custom weapon sound you shouldnt have to edit the tables (unless the fire sound needs to be shorter or longer
go into weapons.tbl and check out what the sounds are....Rename you'r *.wav to the file sound that matches with the one in the table file....
once done creat a *.vpp and put ur wavs into it

I thought of doing that but for what i want to do this will not work. rember that some of the weapon share sounds and adding a SCREAM just wouldn't sound right comming out of the pistol. where as it would sound right for FORCE SCREAM. and besided i want to make it easy for those who want to take my mod apaert for there own evil perpus

Of coarse you can just put the sounds in a vpp and place it in your single maps folder. I took all the weapon sounds for the game FarCry and replaced mine. It sounds alot better to me.
WHY does no one read any more? maby i just wasn't clear enough? regardless. lets say i wanted to add a new "force scream.wav" to the pistol "$Fly Sound:" how do i do that without crashing the game, and with out renaming my sound to what ever the pistol fly sound is?????

First, the handguns projectiles are too fast to have any fly sounds.
Second, you must edit the Foley.tbl for that.
Just copy and paste one of the entries such as:
$Name: "Human Death Head 2a"
$Sound: "HumanDeath_Head_02a.wav" 7 0.9
Now, the Name is the name for the table files, let take SCREAM.
In weapons.tbl it would look like that:
$Fly Sound: "SCREAM"
In foley it would look like that:
$Name: "SCREAM"
$Sound: "force scream.wav" 7 0.9
7 is the effective sound radius and 0.9 is the volume/loudness
in detail:
$Sound: <filename><min_dist><volume>
However, if the game still crashes you should rename your sound file because spaces are bad. Always use underscore lines for the files.
another example for a sound
+Action: "draw" "fp_rmt_chrg_draw.mvf" "Charge Draw"
You can find this in weapons.tbl / Remote Charge
Charge Draw is the name in foley.tbl to play a soundfile

While we're on the topic of fly sounds... what guns actually use them? The only one that comes to my mind is the rocket launcher.
