Ok, I want to run my dedicated server ({RFA} WiErD Dedicated CTF)) on my laptop, and it has Windows Vista. Everytime I want to LAUNCH RFSA4, it gives me the error : "Runtime error "53"" And then closes. I thought maybe it was the VBRun files, but I installed those and still got the same error. Any suggests?

Best Regards,

Runtime error 53 = File not found - File required by the program to run is not found. Program needs to be reinstalled or missing file(s) need to be copied back to the computer.

why would Microsoft do their own in-house testing when they can sell all their newest products to us, and release patches based on consumer complaints? thats the way it has always been and will always be. me, im waiting a couple years before i upgrade to vista.. ill let you all weed out the bugs for me first...

And ther-in lies the problem. microsoft does not do there own in house testing nore does MS lision to it's consumer complaints. if thay did then there would be no need for a brand new OS to be built. A very simple (complacated) patch (probly around one gig) would'v done the trick. i mean look at the mac os or linux for example. (ok mac os x is the exeption this time) all eather one has done to uptade the os is make one very huge patch every year, which does not count the little weekly patches. (mac os x is the only time a brand new os was rewritin for the mac from the ground up)

dodn't beleave me. then whay is ever corperation that has updated to Vista started to sue MS, and demand that MS reimbers them for time lost have to switch back to XP. not to mention the fact that over half of all the banking, stock, and medical software does not work on vista (i'm talking about comerseril software)

The way i see it, Vist is the first. os that MS has tried to build without buying or stilling other peoples work first. i think thay sould stick with what thay know

MS does not do in house testing. Right. Please... do tell what you have been smoking. Of course they do their own in house testing! Ye gods... you think they got it even slightly right first time?? No programmer does!

Do you have access to every single motherboard, graphics card, sound card, network card, mouse, keyboard, screen, physics card, tv card (the list goes on) out there? In every single combination of the above? No. Nor does MS. The Beta program before launch was designed to get the new OS out to as many as possible to test on as much different hardware setups as possible. You deride them for it... I say good on them. Imagine what it would have been like if they didn't!

Secondly... I've yet to hear of any company sueing MS for buying Vista. I know most of the big ones haven't even bothered to start - stating they're waiting for Service Pack 1 before they do. Those that have made the plunge on their own - MS isn't forcing anyone to buy Vista!

Vista is a different OS to XP. There are always issues with going from one Windows OS to another, Win98 to Win2k was a major upgrade that broke way more than XP to Vista is breaking. Things have to change, move on, get better... you cant keep supporting stuff thats old and possibly insecure.

You really need to get your facts straight... you seem to think OS X was built from the ground up. Let me point you in the right direction. Mac OS X is Unix....

There are a couple of other points I could finger and laugh at... (I'm going to assume you think Vista is the first OS to have a nice transparent window interface for a start, MS not use anything from anyone else? pfff... LOL) but I'll save that for someone else

I'd like to point out I use XP at home. Vista at work.
Vista is rock solid, stable and hasn't crashed once since installing it. It runs my games (at work hehe [lunch times only honest!]), runs all my development tools and utils, winamp, trillian, skype... everything I use at home I use there. No trouble at all. Dont believe everything you hear about Vista not working at all... because thats just the media blowing things out of proportion as usual.

That sounds about right there Garner. Vista is very complicated and will have bugs like everything does - like Red Faction and plenty of other games and operating systems (XP, even the Mac OS)

I used the demo of vista and was pretty disapointed - But thank god I didn't pay for it and it was installed as a secondary operating system. Games I would usually get over 50fps on set to high graphics got around 2fps (Battlefield 2, Batttlefield 2142, Counter-Strike: Source, Half-life 2, etc. Yes thats right 2, two thats not a typo. the commercial version wasn't much better and SP1 better streamline the system performance more or its over.

The see through windows are not new to me - they have been on games and programs before, but i can only think of one at the moment witch is Fly For Fun a MMORPG I sometimes play.

I was talking to a tehie about a month ago from whom we were purchasing a business laptop (ahem). He told me that Vista wouldn't be essential for about another 2-3 years. I tend to agree as I shall not be making the move to Vista until I have $500 to throw around and a kick CENSORED computer.

The best performance-wise operating system is Windows '98 as far as I'm concerned but lacks the Driver and compatibility support Windows XP has. I use XP on all except and ancient lappy (Windows 98) that I honestly don't need XP on.

We've gone a bit off topic here but secretly I think this whole "VISTA, uou've done it again!" topic is about - bagging on Vista.

Even the new office 2007 gives me the sh*ts. My cousin recenlty enquired for my help when a document (a school assignment or something) had been opened in Word 2007 edited and saved. The document couldn't be recovered since saving it corrupted it. this has also happened to me on several occassions.

Well thats me I have to get to class. Vista has a long way to go and thats about it. Get on it Bill.

no problems? i thought no programmer got it right the first time? you say you dont hear about vista not running.. and i hate to bring up the whole tree in the forest thing, but...

also i dont assume to know where you work, but i dont consider running spreadsheets and microsoft office smoothly as a rigorous testing ground for any OS.

okay lets not get superior or anything.... if im unfamiliar with any other forms of OS, what then am i basing the lack of testing against? video games? myspace? sigh

finally, id like to add that the initial comment was made mostly in jest [hence the ] and that its not a black and white issue::: of course microsoft does some testing(probobly rigorous to most standards), but not to the degree that the "mother of all OS" should.... thats all..

sooooo ,dont lose sleep over it .

too bad there isnt a sarcasm button in the keyboard....

First and foremost, try Windows XP Compatibility mode. Windows XP was designed to be completely backwards compatible so I'd say it's your best bet. While I don't want to get into a huge debate over why Microsoft sucks or doesn't suck, I will say this; Vista is new, it was time for change. It's very buggy, but I'd like to see any of you do better. Why not just continually update XP, you ask? Simple. Windows is (and most likely will always be) designed around updating only certain aspects of the code. You can't simply update and make it all better. Microsoft has, however, planned this; which is why you can install newer versions of the OS onto your older version, allowing for a seamless (well, not really) transition.

Seriously Halsfire get back into your Halo Forum and read more than just the first few posts. DON"T SPAM

"VISTA, you've done it again" is the name of this topic - seems like a complaint about Vista to me and a way to gauge on peoples reactions.

Vista is relatively new and you'd be hard pressed to find anyone who has had the same problem and a solution for it as well.

I'm sure giggles1 googled it and probably came up empty and posted here in the off-chance that someone might have had the same error with RED FACTION. NOT HALO.

giggles1 can correct me if I'm wrong and say what topic this is supposed to be about.

Looks like Monsterman was the turning point for this topic. I cb f'ed putting in a quote, read it yourself.

Judgeing my the original post this is a redfaction / operating system probelm which frank has already answered.
