Wedge Manipulation
This tutorial involves a bit of understanding of how to use RED..
The grid technique is used during this presentation.. Which means NO moving anything without the arrow keys!

The 1st step is to create 1 air box brush 12 metres x 12 metres and 4 metres high.
Step two we are going to add a 2nd brush.. But this one will be solid wedge brush which is placed directly into the bottom left corner of the air box brush.
So now we have rounded off 1 corner of our room..

Ok In this picture above I've moved 2 vertex's of the wedge.. Which also NOW has a line going through it, Which means the brush has been forced to split in half.
Brushes splitting is not bad.. Because You get more shape with more vertex's. But If you also want to know how to get the most shape out of less vertices (Low Poly).. Then you will have to read this tutorial.. But right now we are going to move two vertex's on the wedge.. So that it looks like my pic above....
To do this you must go into Vertex mode (Ctrl + V)
Without including the vertex's which are touching the very corner.. There are only 4 vertex's on the wedge.. For this example.. You DON'T move 1 vertex from the top and then move 1 vertex from the bottom.. That is WRONG!
Once I selected 1 of the 2 vertex's on the top of the wedge, I moved it 4 metres outwards along the wall and ceiling, Then I did the same thing with the dot which is next to the one I just moved to get a nice natural result.
We wan't out wedge to be bigger at the top or IF you moved the bottom vertex's.. It's going to be bigger at the bottom.. Which is not what I've done, But can still work.. So that when viewed from the side.. The wedge is no longer straight up and down..It's on a 45 degree angle .. and takes up alot more of the room.
Last but not least.. Go to Face Mode, Select the broken faces around the line by First selecting one, hold Ctrl and click the other one (Now they are both highlighted).. Click the Combine button on the side.

The final picture shows just how far a brush can be pushed to it's inner limit..
you should be able to see the basic wedge triangle shape, which the angle of the wall is 45 degrees aproximately.
I just found this issue interesting.. and taking as much advantage of this style as possible for my maps.
Well That's All.
OR you just select the face and Hold S to scale the face.. You won't have any extra faces to combine in this particular case... But say hello to T-Joints and Grid Problems. |
