Hey, guys! Um.. i need help with a website.. I'm trying to make it so there is a chat box on the webpage.. you know the deal... when you enter your name and you're free to chat. Something very, very simple. Just Enter your name, a message and click send.

If that's not hard enough.. I would like it so you had to be registered to do talk on it. I've tried a program that comes with my server, but it just doesn't look nice.

Any ideas?

Do you mean real time chat.

Or a shout box type thing?

That really depends on how you plan on doing the site.

I agree, and theoretical discuss how I should do one specific small things is quite stupid as many "content managment systems" or "cms" contains high ammount of selectable features, which include such a chatbox kind of things etc.
Only turn side is that most of content managment systems require database to operate, like mysql...

So I would say that this whole conversation should be pointed to place specialized in issues related to website development disguss.

I don't understand why this was put on rf.l4y.com longue in first place and haven't been moved yet.

Well, it undermines the concept of a forum. An online forum is an organized discussion medium, generally not a free-for-all. This is especially true when we have a place for these sort of questions (levels4you.com/forum).

The only reason I bring this up is that people (you've been fortunate here) rant and rave for pages on Internet decorum, and L4Y has its share of people (some might say I'm included). Luckily, L4Y's a generally nice place (unlike the almost literal hellholes I've been to with idiots crawling in every single thread (raises hand)).
