I installed the new textures into my tables.vpp and I got the textures to work, but now it is saying my "data is incompatible" when I try joining the servers. I tried removing the two files your download had, but if my mind serves me right, it overwrites a one-two files in the tables.vpp. So what do I do now? Is there another way I can play rf w/o having to uninstall/reinstall?

P.S. I'm not downing your contribution whatsoever, those textures were GREAT! Just wondering if I did something wrong, cuz I followed the directions on the "T"! |

I thought about that, but I didn't want anyone else to make the mistake I did, just being generous.

Well there is a solution to this problem.
All you have to do is create a new version of RED that loads another version of the tables.vpp file.
I just added Goober's two files to my tables.vpp but saved it as kiliad.vpp. I then edited red.exe and changed its internal reference from tables.vpp to kiliad.vpp instead. Now I have access to the extra textures but can still join games normally. |

I should of said make sure you backup your tables.vpp
Ill go add that to the description now... sorry
EDIT: opp, looks like frank beat me to it
Im not sure, but you could try adding them to your ui.vpp insted, i wonder if that would make a difference. Before you try it, do not try it if your running 1.3 or lazyban1.3... |

Yeah well IF I understand right goobstah made this new High Detail textures pack by adding files into exsisting vpp files is not clever as most certainly that causes problems.
This statement is based on fact that I have tried to manipulate vpp files in various ways and there is some kind of integrity check within RF, however that does just check that data matches with server not for double files.
I just say that create actual modifications if you want to do "enchanted RF" in any way
On other hand I would be anxious to test that does my theory of more cheater proof version of RF work in practise, since I can't find flaws there. |

can't you just replace the texures by making a new .vvp file, with your new texures in it and put it into your single folder? |

First, Fury, I am not adding high detail textures, and Mostertman I havent replaced anything.
I have mearly put textures into RED which were not by default available in RED. |

I don't really see much point in modding RED/tables just so custom textures appear alongside the original ones. If you name textures using a decent convention then you should be able to find the one you want quickly and easily in the 'custom' section of texture mode.
Having said that I've got a seperate modded version of RED for custom(Stargate) objects/entities/vehicles |

I think there is quite a bit of confusion here so let me explain what Goober has done.
There are default textures used in Red Faction that DO NOT show up in RED. All Goober has done is allow RED to see those hidden textures by changing a few files in tables.vpp.
He is NOT adding textures or making custom textures appear among the default ones. |

Yes I did. people should know that any time that you are modifying any files on your PC ( or MAC ), you should back them up before you make any changes. Back up your registry too if you want, it all can help if something goes terribly wrong. |

I checked through those new textures and some of textures were clearly went to be used as part of entities etc, and not in enviroments, however those numbers are handy alongside few other things.
Anyway now that I really know what this was about was quite easy to write correct comments about it, anyway great job with these textures goober. |

Hey man that’s great is there anyway you can do this 1 more time and rename the new vpp "rededitors.vpp" and then share that changed exe with the community? It will definitely help mappers creatively texture things faster. |
