... ehmmm
is it going through a router / wireless router?
what kind of internet connection is it? cable, DSL, 56k , sattelite?
Check all your network connection settings, also check your firewall is not effecting anything either. If you think its a virus, run a Full System Scan with what ever virus scan you have. If you do not have one, do a Google search for "AVG Free Anti Virus Scan" and download and install that one for the time being.
ek_jason_x I had my share of disconnects with cable. Every time they checked the line, they said it was fine. Turned out that they were doing upgrades and just didn't let their customers know because they were afraid of losing them to the competition.
Before I moved, I couldn't stand my cable Internet connection that I went back to DSL, I had to give up my 8meg download speed for a mere 3megs.
Now that I am at the new(abused) place, I decided to try cable again. I love it again. But I'll be honest, if it starts acting up again like what you sound like you are having, I'll switch to SBC without even blinking. After all SBC DSL is 30 dollars cheaper than Road Runner Cable Internet and now DSL tells me that I can get up to 6 megs download, which I would be happy with.
