Since the CDC doesnt allow user comments, i thought i would open this thread just so you can comment on the mod and ask questions to the team.

The CDC can be found here:

I know you're keeping a lot of things quiet, but is there anything else that we can look forward to that you wouldn't mind telling us?

Well, i am keeping things quiet as KILLER stated, but there are a few things i wouldnt mind saying:

It will include new models. Definatly static meshes. 1st person weapons and player models are undecided at this point.

If there wont be any new player models, there will be new skins of most (if not all) of the player models.

This will be a multiplayer mod primarilly; meaning that you can try it in SP, but you will probably come across some things which are impossible or very hard in the mod in SP. The training mission and glasshouse however, will be redone.

There have already been slight weapon modifications, and there will be many more. Im working on some bullet impact FX right now.

We are trying to intagrate new features never before seen, but we are unsure as of yet as to the extent of this which will be included due to engine limitations.

We will be remaking detailed versions of all default maps, some new default maps, and some customs.

EDIT: Oh, and slayer, it will require a bit more memory and power than normal RF, but not to a huge extent. The biggest lag-maker on older PCs will probably be a large number of particles remaining in the map for longer.

I will be making another CDC update sometime tonight

here is an odd concept that you will probably never hear again ...

wouldn't it be cool if there was a weapon that actually added to the level rather than subtracting from it? ...

if you had both imagine the things you could do in MP ... block doorways, create forts, alot ...

too bad it probaby isn't possible ...

I wish i had RF source code ...

Edit: I know that this is really off, i just thought of HD and Geomod and then i thought of garrys mod ... so logically i thout of a RF gun that could add brushes to a map ...

well, actually i was thinking about snowed out an how cool it would be if the snowballs stuck to the walls, then i thought that it would be cooler on a larger scale ...

Although when I think of Geomod personally I look at it differently to you.

If the Geomod wasn't there to begin with, How can you subtract it?

I simply consider Geomod as 'adding to the level' (making your own holes or tunnels)

But I do get what you're saying.. (the opposite of Geo) But Unforunately unless the additional Anti-Geo (bogus op-geo weapon) created box shapes or flat polys, You may end up stuck in the faces of the result.

It's pretty easy to make dodgy buggy type maps in RED.. There are not many maps which contain zero bug/glitches.

EDIT - What about a weapon similar to the remote charge?? except bigger.. It would nearly be a posibility.

There's a possibilty that you could do something similar with clutter and maybe the grenade or remote charge? Though I just did a quick test on the remote charge and there must be a no_player_collide tag buried somewhere in there.

It would be pretty nifty if you could add clutter to the map via a weapon, but you'd also have to make sure it didn't disappear when the player who fired it dies.

[edit]Lol ninja, just noticed your edit in your post.[/edit]

Ninja, when you shoot a hole in a wall the level actually generates a geo-mod air brush and rebuilds the room (not the whole level) ...

i guess it depends on if you look at RF in a conceptual or in a realistic way ...

by blowing holes in the walls, you actually are making the map file temporarily bigger ... but in a conceptual way you are subtracting solid area to make it air area ...

meh ...

The clutter option is the most likely choice that would work ... it could spawn a flat surface or something that could be used to block paths ...

Man, if you could get the weapon to work im sure there could be a way to make a map for fighting like that one HL2 mod where you build your forts then fight ...

Ive hit a major roadblock.

First off, the Chair Spawner works except for a few problems...

1. The object is disoriented, but i believe this can be solved with a new model.

2. You can only spawn 50 before your shooting ability in all the map will be disabled

Number 2 is a real bummer. Anyone have a fix for that yet?

I understand you have your own theory on Geo, It doesn't matter If you're right or wrong, Just as long as you beleive you're making sense is enough for me.

That type of weapon would be quite crazy to see in RF.. But there is 1 thing I think you are missing.. And that is that you want to see changes in the environment made by the players, But what If the changes were made by timed events/scripted/triggers.

The map itself would be telling a story, As you're playing, Things would occur which couldn't possibly be done using geo ect,
It could be done without use of mods which is another bonus...

I think geo can be used for good things too but you just have to figure out what.

I don't get the whole idea of this project. so are you aiming at making red faction look next generation? Like extremely detailed levels? High Resolution textures? More realism? faster gameplay? Just like games that are being developed today that are next generation? sorry I'm just confused...

But if that is exactly what your aiming for then that would be pretty kewl.

Thats preety much the meat of it.

Of course, on the RF engine, true Next-Gen is not possible, but as close as i can get
