One of the tragic mistakes of the Christian religion is that they allowed themselves to be represented as a whole by the few 'bible-thumping zealots' who actually get media coverage.
I am a person of faith but I am shunned by traditional Christians because I do not attend a church. I don't attend a church because the Christian religion is based almost solely on tradition rather than a true Biblical interpretation of God's plan. Religious individuals and leaders often pervert scripture to fit their own selfish needs or those of whatever group they affiliate themselves with. Centuries ago the Catholic priests interpreted the Greek Bible into whatever was beneficial to the priesthood, rather than the truth that was needed by the ignorant and illiterate masses. Whether malicious or innocent, misinterpretation does occur.
As to allowing science and reasoning to control my spiritual well-being, no thank you. I prefer to believe that man is not all-knowing and that human reason does not hold the secrets to the universe. I find very few things more detestable than the ideals of humanistic mindset.
Science and religion will never walk hand in hand because science pushes reason, while mosts religions emphasize faith.
All that aside, we as humans can never understand the mind of God and must rely on faith. I don't understand why God allows the atrocities that he does on earth but I do strive for that understanding because that is the only way I grow as a intellectual and a Christian.
There it is for you, my two sense, to pick it apart.
Does anyone else think the internet, much less the forum of a gaming website is a bad place to have a theological discussion?
"Whenever you feel like criticizing any one," he told me, "just remember that all the people in this world haven't had the advantages that you've had."
