Hi Folks,

I have a Problem with the Internet Traffic. Everytime my pc is plugged to the Internet it starts downloading something. Although im not doint anything on my machine. I am using a tool called Lingeuard, that is monitoring the activity. I use ZONE ALARM AND additional anti spyware/virus programs, but nothing has been found so far.... what can be the reason for this? Has anyone ever had that problem before?

he would get a notification on his task bar if it were windows update.. um do your virus scans in safe mode with out netwrk connection.. might help a tad

and if some one was mooching off his wireless it wouldnt exactly cause his pc to dl anything lest there force feeding hs computer through the netwrok

Have you tried running any of these free programs:

CCleaner 1.35.424

I'll list more, I just ran out of time. I have to go pick up my nephew...

I have a additional process explorer that shows any process and if it is doing anything. But ther are no dialer.exe or other strange files... Here is a summary:

OS: Win xp PRO/service pack 2
Connection: Cable modem via USB direktly plugged in
Firewall and Protection: Zone Alarm (registered full version), AdAwareSE, CCleaner, Kaspersky Internet Security (registered full version)

and SniffEm... a cool tool showing every transfered package and its contents...

So i guess my PC is not just a surfing target!

If you can take a screenshot of your current running processes, we can see exaclty what you have running and hopefully be able to tell you what shouldnt be there (if anything)

Hmm.. Just out of curiousity, have you tried plugging the modem in directly via ethernet(CAT5) cable? As I've had nothing but issues when connecting my own or client computers up to the USB port... For instance, pcs would just lose connection for no obvious reason, then after the pc is restarted it would work for a while until it cut off again. And a few other issues I've had with it.

Just a suggestion to see if it helps anything.

If he's using USB my guess is that's the only choice. Anywho... If the traffic is minimal then you have nothing to worry about, it's perfectly normal. It has to do with DHCP, DNS and all that good stuff. If it's really slowing down your connection then try closing out all programs, every last one. One last thing, try to find out if your monitoring tool causes any traffic, it may just all be in your head.

You can get rid of the nVidia helper service, you don't really need it.
One almost sure way to find out what programs are running on the background or should I say on your start up is to go here:

PC Pitstop

And run their full test. At the end of the test, click summary to get to the list of needed program and the optional ones that you can prevent from starting when you first boot up your PC.

P.S. you will have to sign up for an account but it's totally free and you won't get spam from them. They are a legit web site.
