I am sure that most folks would like to see some vengence against the modders that disrupt servers. Lock'em out of RF. Sounds great doesn't it?
Until someone else figures it out and then starts locking players out not because they are cheating but because of personality differences.
Then more people figure it out. Blocking everyone in arbitrary waves of discrimination.
So then what do we have? The self crowned lords of RF, who won't let anyone play unless they receive obedience or ransom. Is that the escalation we want?
The last I heard - this special program was not being run.

Personnally i think that we shouldn't even of mentioned it was possible ... because even if this guy doesn't use it, there may be someone else who comes along, figures it out, and does use it ...

Hapa Hanu somebody else just PMed me about a server and client side file that would allow players to download maps from the server that they are joining.

There are others that can do another tool like this but won't release it cuz they know of the trouble it would cause to both themselves and to the rest of the RF community. |

A long time ago i was playing ISM, there was this guy i saw alot in ISM,
dont remember hes name.. it was something like white shark or something like that. he told me that he had a program to ban you from every server in RF. maybe thats the guy. never saw him again. also SnipedDragon had a program like this if i remember well. i have him on msn il ask..
Personally i think its useless.. Cheating is an aspect of RF, and we are not the ones to destroy it.. if someone had to do it. it would be volition. sorry for typpo's./
Just talked to SnipedDragon, he knows how to do it. but hes not the one Who are E_darkness and NCF are talking about.. Maybe CAM ? |

The modding weakness of RF is in it's protocol. Not much to do about it, unless you got a BIG deal of spare time and want to decode all the parts from movement speed to bullet fireing speed in HEX. I tried so, but it's almost impossible to ban all cheaters, you need decode many things (starting at decoding the .VPP fileprotocol).
There's one solution, and that's building a remote file checker for RF which every client has to run in order to join the server. Quite possible if you use a One way hash like MD5 to decode the CRC32's of all files in the RF folder. When built correctly, it should be quite hard to bypass but not impossible.
I could probably build an application that's able to do this. But then again ... I have deleted RF + all my programming languages from my PC many, many months ago. I'd have to reinstall it all.
<EDIT>BTW:
For those interested in my servertool, I have to disappoint you. (That's what happens when you backup files when reinstalling windows and you're high on green). |

You know reading this topic kinda makes me think.
I would even pay the guy who would build 1.4 patch for RF with blocking almost every singel mod in RF ( i know its almost unpossible to do but still ) CENSORED it , i would even pay THQ if they would do something about it.
No im not rich but this is something that i would do. |

Haven't I just told you the solution against aimbots? It's possible to detect certain changes in RF's memory.
Edit: Kinda like making a PunkBuster for RF. Now that isn't so hard is it? Just make an application that acts as a gateway for your RF server, and voila. Now everyone that wants to join your server needs the 'anticheat' application.
I have done this before, but found it to impractical because everyone has to use the application. (The gateway stuff, making it detect mods is easier )

Look, I'm very interrested in this project too. I haven't programmed anymore in ages and I am looking for a new challange. If I just had RF ... I don't think you can download it. |

That link doesn't work. I once released my own RF on the internet which was only 400 megs and fully functional, however .. The host I put it on was from a clansite which is shut down a long time ago.
Edit: Seems this problem is filefront related. Maybe it's because I'm on a dutch connection. |
