I am going to create and relase an UNOFFICIAL SDK for Red Faction.
Main reason why I do this is that I found out that several persons would be interested to help me in my modification projects, but they do not know how to create mods or maps to RF...
So I hope that this brings more pepole to RF scene since RF is nearly unique game and there is more possibilities than many know of.
So if you have some nice tutorials and want them to be added to this UNOFFICIAL SDK please PM ME.
When this will come out is unsure as I have my studies and work keep be busy most of week ... So I can do more on weekends.
PS. IF Volition representative sees this and has anything to say about this, I want to hear your opinion TOO. |

I doubt if youll like my opionion, but it has to be said.
I think this SDK is a horrible idea, i dont see it going anywhere. Prove me wrong and ill change my opionion, but based on what ive seen this mod will be like every other one that flopped. |

I don't really get the idea.
What is it exactly what you want to do? collect tutorials for RED and weapon modeling and bundle them together? |

Yeah.. Just because you can physically make a mod or map, Doesn't mean It's going to be good either.. You have to actually want to do it, With every inch of your heart.. And if these people you claim that wanted to help you with your project wanted to learn badly enough.. I can't understand how come they haven't yet.
I remember when I first started building maps in RED.. I didn't know hardly anything.. But I knew enough to get better.
People who need tutorials to get anywhere should really just give up.
Working from a tutorial isn't going to make you better, You might learn a thing or two which I'm not saying is a useless lesson.. But when It comes down to it.. You have to go where nobody has gone before. |

Tutorials help give you a foundation to "go where nobody has gone before." |

There is a difference between creating something pure and pretending a slight variation of a tutorial is your own work.
Following a tutorial will lead to something which has obviously already been done
I can read and understand RED tutorials of any depth, But yet you don't see the more important tutorials anywhere, like "how to go where nobody has gone before" and In my opinion to go there It's simply your building methods and design layouts aswell as creative ability..
Also think about the people who write these tutorials, What makes you so sure they even know what they're talking about.. and for many.. The tutorials are too complicated and confusing. |

I agree with Ninja... Tutorial's do not teach you the "how to go where nobody has gone before".
I learnt to use RED Editor from someone else who was whilling to teach me, but the question is, where did he learn to use RED.
The other lot of tutorials that include weapons, character modelling and so on, they are very difficult. Espically from a tutorial.
The thing is, no one is specific enough to explain it all, they just want to rush tutorials and finish it as soon as possible because once they start writting them, they get bored and start to rush it. |

For the most part, I think an SDK is a god idea, even if it has a few flaws. Tutorials aren't the best things to fuel creativity, but they provide the necessary structure to create something truly great. Depending on how far this SDK can go, it might not be such a bad thing at all. But the question comes up again, if they're so interested why can't they just learn to do it the normal way? |

Yeah well, lets just say that idea for this SDK came to me when some ppl was interested to help in my mod project, but did not know from where to get some tutorials for basics of mapping and modding, so I decided to get those into one packet. Of course project of this magnitude is quite get accomplished, as I have some little more important things to do ...
So when this is going to see daylight, I do not know but I work on this when I can. |
