I recently got the internet on my gaming rig, so I decided to get Half-Life 2 since it got such rave reviews. I ordered it and Episode 1 off eBay. Episode 1 arrived today and I installed it.
Here comes the problem
When I start it up, the opening movie displays a few hiccups here and there. When the game actually starts, about the time I get the gravity gun and start to play with it, it freezes and then crashes. I got some message about an 'Engine Error'
I updated my video card drivers immediately and that didn't help. My computer more than meets the requirments (I even took the settings down a bit).
- 2.8 GHZ Pentium 4
- 1 gig RAM
- Nvidia 6800
Is this a common problem, if so has anybody else experienced it? Any advice would be welcome. |

I have Episode 1 and completed it with flawless performance.
Only thing I can think of would be your monitor... I had to purchase a new monitor myself for better refresh rates. When I would start to play Doom 3 on my older 9600XT card, it would just randomly crash, I saw some posts on Doom 3 support forums about resolution, and my monitor just didn't cut it, so, I went out and got a nice Samsung with better refresh rates, and BAM! It works XD
But umm.. what is your current refresh rate set at? |

As I suspected!
Up that to 75 I have mine set to 85MHz, but 75MHz should be fine for everything.
Afterwards, please let me know how it goes. |
