I need some help with a problem I'm having running a
dedicated server on Red Faction, I've installed RFSAU & Red faction on a extra
PC I had. I then launched the RFSAU software and all worked fine. I
then started my other PC to make sure the server could be seen by others.
That also went fine. I joined the dedicated server and that to went
fine. Other players joined & that also went fine. Now here's where it gets
strange..... When I'm in the game playing on my PC and go to leave the
game, It always kicks everyone from the PC running the dedicated
server.I've tried everything that I know to resolve the problem, no luck.I
run a Linksys BEFSR41 router. I have the dedicated server set with a
static ip address and also have the port forwarding set to 7755 to 7755
UDP. Do you have ANY ideas has to what may be going on here? Please let me
know. Thanks! Ron aka N.A.B. UPDATE!!!!! I launched the game on the PC that was running the dedicated server and then created a game server. I then logged into the game from my other PC and then played with others on the server. Now comes the test when I left the game the server didn't kick anyone. Does this indicate a software issue with the version of RFSAU that I'm running??? It does not appear to be router related problem anymore which I first thought. I've tried to contact Hermits who created the software but his email address is not valid anymore. If any one has ANY ideas please post. Thanks!!!!!
I didn't read the whole post but basically your solution is this:
1. The Server PC (with RFSA 4) leave the forwarded port to the default 7755
2. The gaming PC should be set to 7756 (or any other port you desire )
You probably have a LINKSYS router. I use to have the same issue until somebody told me how to fix it. Now I don't have that issue.
The problem is not really a router problem. It's actually a good thing. If it didn't do what it does, somebody might be able to hack into the router a lot easier.
Hi NoClanFrank, Thanks for your help!!! I got it working. You were close. I had to force port 7756 on the server software then make the change in the router to 7756 also. Then I set up the router to 7755 on my gaming PC' All is ok now. Thanks again! WITCHES BREW is up and running as a dedicted server!!! WOO HOO
The whole point that I was trying to make was that you can't force the same port on the same game without having that error. Well when you have a LINKSYS router. You could actually use any port you want, Red Faction is friendly like that as long as you don't force the same port on more than one PC if you are going to run a server, I don't know if that applies to playing only (without serving) but I doubt it.
I don't know about others routers since LINKSYS routers are all I ever use for a long period of time.
I tried a NETGEAR once...ONCE I didn't care too much for the interface, so I took it back.
I'm glad that your problem was easy to fix. I know it was/is annoying when something like that happens.
