Perhaps you're still holding down the "z" key and it's causing a problem?
Just messing, try reinstalling RF for one. Also, by 35gigs do you mean 35 gigs in free space or 35 gigs on your computer, period? |

i think he means free space ... i don't know of a drive available now that doesn't come in increments of 20 ... however if he has a 40 gig drive ... then it might be closer to 35 gb on his computer ...
Its kind of weird ... whatever your drive is labeled for in GB its actually slightly under ... since they count the bits by the 1000's instead of 1024 ...
thats why you can have a 40 gb drive and it would measure for slightly less on your computer HD info ...
but anywho, im rambling ... even if that was the case ... it wouldn't be a 5 gb difference ... so im pretty sure hes talking about extra space ... |

Heres a question, did you already install 1.3? cause if you did, you have to upgrade to 1.2 BEFORE 1.3. And 1.3 doesnt require the second disc either |

alfie401 if you are doing the whole reinstall thing, be sure that you do the update either using the link on the game or using the file from this site.
The only reason I can think of why you are not allowed to do the updates is that maybe you don't have administrative rights on your PC, if you are using Windows XP.
I know that is the case on my friends stepdaughter's PC. I had to create an ADMIN account to prevent her from installing Morpheus on the PC that wrecked it before I had to reformat it to clean it up and get it working again. |

Yea i hate when people do that... A short time ago i had a friends computer in because she was complaining of it running too slow and occasionally crashing... Looked at it, and it had 2.4mb of free space, along with 19 Cmc_Chod_MS viruses... checked her Ares shared folder, and you dont want to hear/see what was in there
If she must be into stuff like that, at least clear it all up after so no one (her dad) can see what shes been into... its not hard...
Now someones going to come in with a whitty remark about my age, and how i cant be dealing with IT when im only 13... well i do! |

My nephew has that problem. He installed Morpheus after I told him not to and now he can't even boot up the PC. Sure it's an old hand-me down PC that I got from my sister after I bought her another faster better one but I gave it to him so he can learn. I mean the thing still has Windows ME.
He installed Morpheus on my sisters PC as well. She called me asking why her PC was running so slow. I went down, removed Morpheus, a bunch of Spy-ware, key loggers and viruses and finally I set up her and and my account to be admin so he wouldn't do it again. Her son is only 6 years old and he has his own account as well, with no privileges so my other nephew won't install the P2P software.
Worst part about these people(relatives) is that they don't ever run a virus, spy-ware scan and the software is installed. |

Reminds me of the time when my computer was getting adware galore and was suffering from routine virus attacks. I'd run the anti-spyware and virus stuff and would get a message saying that the scan was stopped on it's own for so and so reason.
My mom blamed RF for it because when she did a scan on her own, the virus ended up taking refuge in one of the RF folders for some reason...silly mother.
Turned out that my sisters had been using LimeWire non-stop for the past couple of weeks prior to this and had picked up a couple infected files without knowing it.
EDIT: of course perhaps we chould try to get back on topic here... |

Which is one of many reasons to not use any P2P software unless you know what you think are doing. Many people think they will never get infected and a lot more do. Besides on average, MP3s of song cost less than 99 American cents, why risk getting caught.

I agree, but alfie401 hasn't replied back to see if he got the problem fixed. I wish he would, well you know so it stays on topic. |

For the most part, Goober, torrents are safe. They work based on how many people have them and are willing to share. A virus wouldn't stay active long (if at all) via torrent.
As for the updating problem, I'm out of ideas. Since you reformatted I doubt it's a problem with your computer permissions. Perhaps you have some damaged hardware? Have you been having other Internet related problems or just the updates? |
