I was just visiting my mom and she was asking me how to stop so much stuff from starting up during the system boot up. I was hoping that some of you computer whiz's would know what I may need to do. She is running Windows XP.

Open start menu, go to run then type msconfig, then go to the startup tab and uncheck everything you don't want booting at startup. (warning, if you don't know what something is it's probably better just to leave it checked. you don't want to turn off something that your computer needs to boot at startup. ) then click apply then ok and next time you start up you'll get a message saying your in selective startup mode, just check the box that says don't show this message again or something like that and you should be good to go.

http://www.ccleaner.com

CCleaner is a free tool in which you can use to delete items from your Windows startup.

Be sure to check whether the sound card is compatable with Windows 2000. Also, make sure you have the right driver, Windows 2000 and Windows 2000 Server/Server 2003/XP drivers are very similar (and in the case of Windows XP/Server 2003 backwards compatable). Windows XP and Server 2003 drivers will not work correctly on 2000, however, Server 2000 may.

Jakester 008 have him/her uninstall the sound card driver and maybe remove the sound card from the hardware list. Reboot the PC with the sound card driver CD in the drive and then windows should find the driver for it. If it doesn't, do the installation following the Cd's instructions. Do that at your own risk but that is how I got mine to work. Stay away from any sound driver updates from Microsoft, they messed me up once...

sobe I don't think crap cleaner stops programs from starting up.
One way to find out what programs are running on start up is to go to PC Pitstop.com and run their full test.
Afterwards you can click on the report and it will show you what programs they think as necessary and what program can be removed from starting up when windows starts.

There is your Crap Cleaner startup bit. Easier than running through the config Plus, CCleaner is lightweight and simple to use.

Or just use msconfig like DVL_IAC says. It comes with Windows so you dont need to download/install anything else on your computer.

Firstly, my theme is called Sentinel Beta 1. There is another Sentinel one, but IMO this one looks better.

I got it from http://www.deviantart.com

And about FireFox sucking..... Every person has their own opinion really, and I've seen more people switch from Opera to FireFox than the other way around. But really, they are both great browsers. I just find that FireFox suits me, and to you D2k, Opera suits you. As long as your not using IE your fine
