Run your dedicated server with port 7755 and run RF with a differnt port, thats all you should need to do... |

Wow Sophie, you confused the heck outta me... And from what I understand, you've given the wrong information about static IP addresses.
[lecture]
If an IP address is static (as opposed to dynamic) this simply means it doesn't change. This does not mean, however, that it can't be changed manually (no, you don't need to "reset to factory settings").
The IP address on local network is called an internal, or non-routable, address. The address others see over the internet is an external address.
When you host a server in Red Faction (or most other games) you'll see the internal address as long as your on the local network. This does not mean others can't see your server. Other players will see the external address.
[/lecture]
Let me know if I missed something. |

True, but if you're going to give instructions on something it'd be a good idea to know what your talking about. |

Ouch!
I just thought I'd mention how to change said static internal ip (WIN XP):
Start>Control Panel>Network Connections
You should see an icon for your Local Area Connection. Right-click on it and click properties. You should see a small window pop up for your network adapter, and a list of protocols. Select Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) and click the Properties button.
Set your static ip to something that you KNOW is not in use, and your router is not likely to assign. Example, MY d-link router usually assigns starting from 192.168.0.100 and up, so I start with static ip's from 192.168.0.120 to be sure I am out of it's range.
On yours, it appears to start at 192.168.1.100 so I would suggest assigning an ip of 192.168.1.120
Next, Subnet mast should be 255.255.255.0, and default gateway should be the ip of your router, which I would guess is 192.168.1.1, and your preferred DNS should be the same. Alternate DNS leave blank. Click OK and then reboot when prompted. Hope that that helps!
Now I would also like to mention that your Static internal IP only (as mentioned earlier) shows up in RF when you are accessing it from your local network; ie a computer at your place conneted to the same router. The rest of the world sees your external ip. If you want to find out what that is a really easy way is to go to www.whatismyip.com and it shows it right on the screen. Another thing to note is that if you have multiple computers on the router, you have to specify which one in your port forwarding is the one for your RF server. Example, you just set up the server as 192.168.0.120, then when a call for port 7755 goes through your router make sure that it is set to forward to 192.068.1.120 for that port. If you don't, I think the router will just try to send it to the lowest ip on the network. If you use teamspeak, then you'll have to set up forwarding for that too.
Good luck! |
