Would it be possible for Levels4you to host a ded. server sporting some of the weeks highest ranked maps? just rotate every once in awhile keep it fresh. I mean I'm an advocate of w.r.e.c.k.s. and I love Microfactions, but Panjaland has played Microfactions and nothing else for as long as I can remember! Sure they changed the order of rotation... whoopty doo, they're still the same maps. So what would it take for L4Y to host a custom map server?

Frank has from time to time run the latest maps on his server.

Frank, what has your experience been with that?
I have suffered in real life for the past couple years, now its your turn!

For about 8 hours, i tried to run a server with the latest map update on l4y.

Noone joined (can you ask people to have the latest update right after it's been released and download it every week and take space on their hardrive whereas you know you won't play them)

But actually, i didn't really expect players to join. I'm not used to running a server and i don't have regulars. Something disapointed me more, thou.

When i joined my own servers i realized a big part of the update sucked a$$. Some maps are really unworthy of being played. And if you don't run the whole update, there's little legitimacy to change the rotation on each update.

I thought each mapper could have the chance to have each of his maps played on a server at least once. But some mappers don't do the effort to release decent maps.

I think molodiets said it for me here:

It's a good idea but with the lack of players in this game, it's hard to get players in the server. The only time I can get a full server (14 players) is while running default maps. I basically stop doing it because it was a waste of electricity. With people like you Hapa Hanu, Stu_Pidaso,& Amero running server, I don't need to run a server any more to play custom maps. From time to time I will run a server but that is only because I might get tired of the rotation and want something new or should I say...OLD. You know a map from:

This is just sad to read, I mean it sounds as though you guys are letting this game die down. but I understand why, and thats because a whole lot of people just are not either interested in such an old game any more or the people that still play just don't even want to bother getting custom maps. but you know what I've had it, by the end of this week, or maybe even next week, I'll make sure I'll release some maps then there won't be another update with abunch of maps that no one will even play on.

i am making a map that might be fun ... but i still don't know if people will play it ... the deal is even if you came out with a great map, there would be little or no reation out of the community.

Why not just have some1 host a L4Y server with a L4Y map pack that is updated monthly with all the maps that were submitted the previous month.........I would like to help but I only have a 2M connection and no money to pay for a server.

I wouldn't be abe to play in such a server because the area I'm stranded in (New York ) only has Dial-Up. I might be able to join after spending 4-10 hours downloading the maps (split over a week long period because of how often I can get on the net) and if any of DVL-IAC's maps are played, you can just forget it. Any map above 3.5mb is too big, and I just know they are going to be in big map packs and maps above 100mb. >=X

modmaker91 you know if such a server would be created I would add links to the file description like I have done before on some map packs. I've done this for Ameros Server Maps February 2006. Just so you know when he wants a new map pack, he asks me to delete the cuurent one so that players don't get confused by downloading an older version of it. In FACT, the hoser made me create the map pack and upload it to the site and the reason for the crappy screen shot.

I've done that on other map packs as well. I guess it pays off to be nice to me, which he is not.
BTW I didn't pick the rotation, he did. He sent me a list of maps that he wanted. He asked me to add any files I would think were fun but since it wasn't my server, I didn't do that. I am telling you this in case somebody makes any dumb comments about the maps contained.

New York doesn't have ADSL because it's a giant hicktown. Everywhere except for New York City.

Well, certain areas are hicksville 'round NY (I'm a native New Yorker as well), heck I've lost the signal on my cell phone which has a nationwide plan a couple times while traveling NY, but there are other cities besides NYC (my hometown (Newburgh), Buffalo, Albany, etc.) and ADSL is quite available in any of those areas. Unfortunately, many areas (like the rural region just outside the city limits of Ithica for example) are deprived of the (sort of) greatness of ADSL.

EDIT: Just took a look at your profile and looked up your hometown. Yeah that's most definitely hicksville, I feel sorry for you
