In RF I cannot host at all. When I start a server or a dedi no one can see it. I have my firewall (zonealarm) closed so it can't be a problem. I also made sure the windows firewall is closed. I'm using a Linksys Wireless-G Broadband Router with the curent firmware updates. My friend who also plays RF (Link Master) has the same router and can host. Any ideas?
Wait, do you mean the RFServer Browser that is used on desktop?
Because I can't even see mine on that <_< Though it is up and running fine, as well as on other people's server browsers... Dunno, but as long as it's up I am happy

Sophie your method is just by passing the master server list, which means he still won't really know if the server is visible to others or not.
Click on my signature and just replace my information with yours and you can also check to see if the server is showing up.
OK type this in your web browser:
http://www.rfhq.com/hqq/rfwq.php?ip=<YOUR IP ADDRESS HERE>&port=<PORT NUMBER HERE>
Without the brackets of course.
sobe I can see my server using the desktop server browser. Then again you are on a LINKSYS wireless router as he is and I am on a hard wire LINKSYS router.
Kirby is cool you might try readint this thread as well. problem with server
OK after testing things out I can host and it appears on the link thingy. However no one can see it in the tracker unlessthey add server and then add it to thier favorites. So that I'm wanting is to be able to have people who have not added it yet to be able to join.
Kirby isn't cool any more. Kirby is cool, your problem is that you computer is protect by either a firewall or it's behind a router that hasn't allowed you to open a port that is used to send out the information to the Red Faction master server. This is the reason why nobody else can see your server. If you can't see your server using this program:
Then neither can others. Keep at it. It's not impossible.
If you don't know how to forward a port, then go to: Portforward.com
Find your router and follow the directions. If that still doesn't help and you own a LINKSYS call customer support. It's free and they usually can help. LINKSYS rules in customer support.
Now for the future in cars:
I'll do another post, since I forgot to mention this.
Back when I had zone alarm. I had problems hosting any games. It wasn't until I completely reformatted my hard drive that I was able remove the way the security measures were set up.
I have Zone Alarm installed on this PC but I don't host games on it, so I don't care and I feel a bit safer with it. EDIT:
OK I just tried to start a Red Faction server. Zone Alarm asked me if I wanted to allow RF.exe to act as a server. I click allow and also to remember it. I used lazy130 and then I used the RF server browser mentioned above. I saw the server on the list. I might also add that I did already have the required port 7756 forward on this PC. So I didn't need to do it again. Why 7756 you ask. Because that is the port I choose to use because the default 7755 is already taken on the server PC and as I have learn. You can't have ports forward of the same number under UDP or else the router will only allow one PC to access it. Must be a security thing.
I did however first have to force the 7756 port in the game. Which meant I had to use the default red faction launcher icon to access the menu and the network settings. I hope all this makes sense to you.
