Is there anyone else on your router?
You could try kicking them off..
Close any downloads, anything using the internet.
Or pay more for a better connection (if appliciable) |

Most ADSL lines in the UK are rated at the download speed (in your case 2Mbit) but have 256kbit upload speeds (256kbit is around 30-35kB/s). So even if your line has 2Mbit download speed rating, it'll most likely still have 256kbit upload unless your ISP states otherwise. Not much you can do about it except get a different ISP or internet package if your ISP offers different upload speed packages. |

Yea, I have a 256Kb/s upstream on my ADSL as well, with 1.5Mb/s downstream.
And I get the same upload speed, so no worries eh
Just purchase Cable or a dedicated line(T-line, DS-line, OC-line) |

you can get SDSL connections if the upload is important to you, but they are aimed at businesses and cost a pretty penny i believe. I'm on 8mb with bulldog, I think the upload is slightly better than on 2mb adsl, but i cant remember for sure, I dont upload much. The download speed is only about 3.5 since it is heavily dependent on distance from exchange, for a good speed you're talking yards not miles! The other problem is the 8mb is only slowly rolling out from london, im about 2 miles outside m25 here. I think essex do some fast wireless connections that sounded too good to be true when i read about them, they were just starting up when i lived up there so it might have been promises rather than specs..
ntl is better for upload i think. if you can get it, they wont install it for me, stupid residential houseing developers, cheapskate gits.
you could dialup your 56k modem on the phone line at the same time, that will give you an extra k or 2! |

Upload is rarely more than 256Kbit unless you pay for extra (through the teeth)
Typical usage of the net is that you only upload small packets of information requesting data or acknowledging receipt of said data as it arrives. Therefore ISP's will only give the upload needed to sustain the download speed advertised (if you dont have the upload bandwidth to send the ACK packets as you receive data your download speed will drop)
NTL dont say what upload speeds they offer with their 10Mbit lines... Might have to give it a go to find out |

Hmm thats what i thought/was told...
Garner. Could you give me a link to a site that i could get faster upload from "paying through the teeth " Just for the sake of just taking a look.
I really want SDSL will it ever come to where i live?
There is a valid reason for having the faster upload (apart from using on private torrent sites where you have to keep your ratio up)
I want it so i can host bigger games on xbox live. One of my xbox live mates has 10mb but he has a really good upload speed.
Where as i have 2mb down and can only house 8-10 people without it lagging out. |

BT Scrap net I would get 25kbs upload Max on a 1mb line
BT Gaynet I would get 35kbs Max on a 2mb line
I woul dassume you may get a tad faster with the 3-8mb connections but upload sucks period in the uk unless as G says you pay for it |

HAHA, Well I dont see why they can object now...
1. I spend too much time in my room
Im not even at home that often any more, always round my GFs
2. Internet Clogs up the phone line
Broadband.
3. Cost
I will pay for it.
4. Internet is the spawn of Satan
Still haven't found an answer for this one
I think i would whip yo CENSORED at Splitters, Fo' Shizzle! LOL
Demon sound like a good company, but I don't really see the point in paying for an "upto 2mb" when I know my limit is 1mb. Its one i will get if there is no other options, as that was how much I was looking at paying anyway, but just incase, anyone else know any 1meg connections with no Bandwidth limit? |

Pipex ADSL 1Mbit is unlimited as is NTL's Cable 1Mbit. Not sure of the Pipex price off the top of my head (its installed at my Dads house, he pays for it not me) but NTL 1Mbit is 17.99. The NTL 2Mbit is 24.99 unlimited.
Alternatively you can go for the NTL 10Mbit for 37.99 with 75Gb/month bandwith. Broom Broom.
Skip, search for SDSL in Google. |
