Welcome!
Post 1 / 2

I am new to the was of modding for red faction, and i just need to know some things. I need to know how to change the first person weapon
models. I have everything I need to make the models
(3dsmax4, rftoolkit) . But now I'm now stuck. How can I decompile the
original models so I can use the hands. And how do I animate the models.

A tutorial or if someone could help me that would be awesome.

First off, you cant use 3ds max 4, you need at least 4.2...

i havent figured it out yet, animating for RF is very very hard. and you cant extract the arms, you have to use the arms in the RF toolkit...

lol thanks.

ill go over this i didnt go over in the PM.

To get the armset (as of this moment since my pc is dead) which i use is located here what you have to do is get one of the weapon examples. go into the RF bone modifier and then hit normalize or whatever that button is (it puts the mesh in its default position) and start carefully removing bones then start removing the remains of the weapon the rig was set up to hold. I suggest going into editable poly mode going to element and drag select the gun mesh and delete it. i do NOT recommend tweaking with the armset bone structure as it is already set up. After you clear all the excess polys keyframes etc just merge your mesh with the arms and make some bones for it (i like to select my custom gun mesh and create a duplicate it, strip the texture and use it as the gun bone) then link the bones. make sure you dont accidentally link the gun bone to the biped.
