Hello there, Ive came across a problem with Textures in TGA format in Paint Shop Pro 8... The images ive saved are all 512x512 using 24- bit colour.
When they are loaded into RED, they are not what they seem.... they seem to be currpted of some sort. Images in 256x256 size have the worse effect because they crash RED. Here is an example of what the image should NOT look like...

If theres anyway to fix this problem, please inform me as soon as possible! Much appreciated!
Thanks |

When you save them, does it give you options for the subformat?
TGA's have a number of subformats including one that has built in compression which RF does not support.
You need to make sure compression is not used.
That image doesn't quite look like compression is the problem, but its certainly worth checking on.
Also, you could email me a TGA image as an example so I can check it out. I'll PM you my email address if you like. |

Yeah I know about that problem.
Some versions of Paint Shop Pro use new compressing techniques (or something like that) (it is a known problem)
These TGAs are not only incompatible to RF. I've noticed problems with 3dsmax and ut too.
All I can say is that you should load up the TGAs in another program and save it again. |

Just checked with my brother who used PSP8.
There is an OPTIONS button when you choose SAVE AS.
Press that and it comes up with some checkboxes. Just check the one that says UNCOMPRESSED. |

Also you might want to reduce the number of colors to 32,000 colors and clean the texture up at the bit depth so that in RF it looks cleaner. This can been see in the interface and with some custom skyboxes (Bands of blotchy colors). |

if you play with tga files alot, you might find this useful. Its a simple shell extention that adds native tga thumbnail support to windows explorer. (its not a nasty program, it uses the built-in windows 2000/xp thumbnail api which was designed with this very thing in mind!). Its stable and very helpful

Great find! This'll make mapping and modding much easier, epecially when dealing with large ammounts of files. Gone are the days I have to load each picture separately to remember what it was. |

Thanks for the link cyrus5. Web Root spy sweeper found some spy ware but it was able to remove it and I was still able to install the program.
I think web root must have been on something because the file size remained the same...
If I needed to see what the texture files looked like before, I would normally use ACDSEE to preview them. With this program, I no longer have too. Thanks again! |
