Welcome! Post 4 / 7

I recently upgraded my pc and have reinstalled RF and started playing with a LAN party and then online at the same party. I noticed a strange lag effect which at the begining I thought was just lag.
I got comments from people online about me modding and teleporting because of the way I was jumping around the levels. I noticed the jumpy strange effect on everyone else and not myself in the game. I then watched from someone elses screen to view the strange affect, and noticed that my player was the only one affected.
I can't figure out what is causing this. Any ideas????
Here are my computer specs:

I would say either because of the dual core, and/or hyperthreading.
First try just turning off hyperthreading via BIOS. |

you need to designate a core to RF ... RF is not made for a dual core CPU, so you have to assign one core to the program, if you don't it will switch the task back and forth between cores causing lag type effect ... get what im sayin?
Sobe got there first ... |

The teloporting may be due to an over clocked device. This type of thing happens when you over clock your video card. I know that it can be used as a form of cheating. The lag effect might be the rf.exe being shuffled from core to core. I have seen some one post a fix for this part of the problem you are having and it my work providing that the lag is from the duel core part of the computer.

when you have a dual core processor or a dual CPU motherboard your programs will be computed on whatever core is available. Red Faction was acting Jerky because you did not assign a core to that program alone. So the program was being pushed back and forth between the two cores.
How do i know this?
Because when i loaded seti on my dual amd it was skippy, so when i installed it twice and assigned a core to each program, it did twice the amount of work without skipping
when you did Compatibility mode it set the processor efinity (not sure if that's spelled right ) to one or the other. (i manually do it though usually) | |

yeah, that was me ... if you Ctr+AltDel you can go into processes and set the CPU efinity then you can alt+tab back (problem is RF is finicky to being alt+tabbed
Edit: i guess it is possible i was able to alt+tab it and get back in. |

well, it doesn't ... unless you have two cpus or a dual core in a couputer. then the property shows ... (i ran 2 copies of seti on my dual athlon, at the same time) |

I have tried setting the affinity to each of the processors individually and it did not make a difference either way on either processor.
Did I do it incorrectly? |

Hyper-threading issues can sometimes be fixed by setting RF to windows 98 compadibility mode in the program properties. I have hyper-threading on my PC and win 98 compadibility fixed it. |

well, i dunno if you did it correctly ...
does the game work in SP or is it skippy there as well? because if it isn't, this is not your solution. |

Running the game in 98 mode fixed it. I still have the affinity set to both cpu. Thanks for all the help. Now if someone could just make me play better....... |
