... i think a different point of view would be good like one from a different miner or possibly a merc

Half life: Blue Shift anyone? ... i know its not exactly the same but its a similar idea and blue shift was not a very good game.

Yea, what about just seeing it all through the eyes of a guard?

Trying to calm the rebellion... It could all start off the same I suppoe, or before the rebellion happenned, and you have to walk around the barracks and caves to make sure the miners are working.

I dunno...

Yea maby the guard works for ultor, and starts killing miners then realizes the point of the rebellion is valid after the word of capek's evil has spread throughout the complex, and desides to help the miners secretly like hendrix.

OMFG! What about Red Faction: The Hendrix Operation?

You can be Hendrix, as he was only seen in a few parts of the game, it would be nice to know what he's been doing

Wow. .

I posted this and I didn't expect to get so much feed back. Anyway, I think the player being at the RF base while the merc counter attack began would be cool, or be just leaving with orion and his squad on a mission right before the mercs get there because if the player is there he will have to win the fight, sometime I wish parker wasn't the only miner worth a crap in the game.

I have actually thought and laid some groundwork on this project. It is part of my CDC "Revenge", and is actually the first level. <basic idea of Revenge, retained from memory, check CDC for more>:

You start out in your bunk in the RF base. You get a while to walk around and familiarize yourself with the RF base. After awhile, Eos comes on and tells you that the mercs are coming for the RF base. You are then ordered around the base to deal with clearing out the mercs as they enter. Ex: you start by manning a turret. After a while, a flank maneuver is pulled and the mercs blow a hole in the RF's geo-thermal plant (mini-plant, I'll just be a generator and some lava, etc). You have to push them back and regain the offensive position.

After that attack "fails" (which it was only a diversion), the mercs attack by drilling directly into the base from the sub-terranean mines (because the RF base needs to be accessible from anywhere on Mars in secret). You clear them out, and a final assault is launched directly at the base from all sides. You just have to survive (ie doesn't matter how many miners die, just so long as you have at least 1% health left after the mercs attack). Two tankbots, Masako, a Capek clone, and a battalion of mercs (I plan to throw in about 200 just for that section alone, if RED can handle it. If not, I'll cut it back as necessary).

Essentially, the only thing stopping me from completly making this map in a week is that the level of AI scripting will be insane . This, coupled with the fact that RF half-dies when only 40 AI are presant means that it'll probably have to be severely cut back. Currently, I'm looking for a great idea of the layout of the RF base. I have a basic idea, however I plan this level to have something like 3 floors, a basement, labs, generator room, etc. Needless to say, I'm starting to wonder of RED can handle it (think of how slow "Assault-better" runs on most comps (even my uber-comp slowed down interminably when I turned to face the squads of guards).

Anyway, I have more ideas, and I plan to put them in the Revenge map pack. So, while I weed out the good ideas from the bad, I'll throw some out now and then to see how what I've rejected would look like to others (as explained above: recreating the first level of SP mode is difficult. My current idea on it is theoretically too powerful for RED to create. However, I'm still trying it and cutting back as much as I can while its still in "conceptual phase").

The Hendrix Operation intrigues me. That'd be nice to see.

Eos is obviously broadcasting from the RF base, using an illegal wiretap into Ultor communications. Undoubtably, it is a wireless initial connection, and several receivers are all over Mars.

Being that Ultor is a company, I highly doubt that Eos is the girlfriend of Ultor (elsewise, she's been with a <rough estimate of total entities in RF>thousand or more folks in the few years Ultor's been on Mars. If Eos was doing that, why rebel? She'd be in a sweet spot to "influence" Davis and Gryphyn to fix up the mines. There is no doubt that the guards would know, so the Administrators wouldn't really care who knew why the miners got new envirosuits and clean water to dring, would they?). However, that does bring up a good point. If Eos was such a dubious person, what lead to the reason for revolt? Gryphyn tire of her? If so, why does he speak somewhat kindly of her (during the "Admin escape" thing from Admin level to the trash disposal area: Gryphyn constantly says that Ultor knows about Eos and that they don't care. Being that Gryphyn is the one who'd know the most about things, I presume he's using the euphamism "Ultor" (in that reference) to be himself. In other words, Gryphyn is not only a RF sympathizer, however might even be involved with Eos in some odd way).

Someone should make something to illustrate this (I'm half-inspired by a slew of online videos I've seen online to create something myself (video production school at school likes a lot of my ideas, so maybe I'll sell this one to them. Doubt it'll be online, and I wouldn't have the resources to put it online. So, even if this does happen, most of you won't see it :'( )) possibility.

correct me if i'm wrong but didn't that other miner that said "leave me alone jerk, its been a long day" start the rebellion? . . Just a thought.

Mars in the near future.

Mars is the planet of opportunity, its mineral wealth feeding the insatiable needs of Earth, a planet stripped of war materials and mineral. Ultor Corporation, aptly named after the ancient Roman temple dedicated to Mars, the Greek God of War, owns all the mining rights on the planet. The company is an expert at maximizing production while minimizing costs. Fortunes are made as cargo ship after cargo ship return to Earth filled with precious Noachite.

Mine workers, misled by promises of adventure and easy money, arrive on Mars by the shuttle load. Few ever make it back to Earth. Conditions in the Ultor Mines are brutal. The work is dangerous and the miners' living quarters are disgusting. Environmental suits and bunks are shared between miners on different shifts. Food is lousy and in short supply. And beatings from Ultor guards are commonplace.

Worst of all, a mysterious, disfiguring Plague is running rampant through the mines. As the death toll rises and Ultor remains complacent, the miners' fear and discontent grows. Pamphlets and posters from an underground organization begin showing up all over the mining complex. Signed by the mysterious Eos, the pamphlets tell of bizarre deaths and missing comrades and urge the miners to take action against Ultor. Tensions run high. The mines are wired like a powder keg. All it will take is a spark...

During a shift change, a young miner is brutally assaulted by an Ultor guard. Another miner, Parker, witnesses the brutality and is quickly caught up in the chaos. He has no choice. Kill or be killed. A rebellion explodes across Mars.

Can you live long enough to become a hero?

well, you wouldn't have to follow the origional storyline ... i was thinking they send you in toward the middle of the rioting as a merc or reserve guards, they drop you off in a dropship, and you frag as many miners as possible with your posse of Mercs/Guards Muhahaha.

After that, you would be assigned to track down Parker and kill him , so you and your mercs would follow his wake of destruction, cleaning out the miners that secured the parts he took, all while gaining on his trail, eventually you find him and there is a big fight between you and "parker". If you win, Ultor had sucessfully put down the rebellion, if ultor loses, the rebellion suceeded.

Nice description ng_zz.

Assaultman: your idea would have to obviously be a mod (dir!). Hendrix would have to be replaced with an Ultor officer (or just Ultor. The game makes allowances for a message from Ultor (picture is a "?")), and Parker would have to be given a nanotech shield to prevent his quick death (or maybe you're armed with only a pistol at the end? Even so, you'd need some way to increase Parker's heath to represent his almost invunerability to death in the game).

Nice idea, although a lot of work. Isn't this what the Ultor Corps mod is about anyway?

You're thinking too hard ... you could copy the levels in the game and change the charaters and goals in it ... not replace the characters itself ... for parker you could just give him as much health and sheild as possible, check the perfect aim box and give him a rail gun ... I guarrantee you wouldn't be able to beat that ... , yeah, there would be modding that would need to be done her and there (like text) ... but not too much.
