yep absolutely second that T.M.I.N.E. but thought we could point out it's shortcomings once the server was running lol . .
KERPAL maybe it's time u told us:
1) how u make your connection, 56k /dsl, modem /router, LAN etc
2) if you're running a game u play in directly or a dedicated server that u then join
3) if you're running a server starter prog like say Hermits etc |

You are running a normal dedicated server that everyone can join, except for you?
Does that mean you can see it on the list of servers?
If that is the case, do you mean that when you join it kicks you?
If that is what is happening then try joining your server using your LAN IP address not the internet address. I for one can't join my server through the internet IP address, I have to join using my LAN address because if I join the other way, when I leave it kicks everybody of the sever. On the server since it says they got kicked because of unreliable connection...
In case you were wondering, I am using a LINKSYS Router. |

No, actually the reason why I can't join my own dedicated server is because I only have it running on one computer, which is the only computer that has rf installed on it.
I too use a Linksys router, and it's wireless. |

well depending on how fast etc your CPU is (maybe frank can advise) 1st: try starting a dedi with an altered port (ie: not the default 7755) it's called 'force local port' & two methods are described on that page . . 2nd: jot down your LAN IP address (dbl-clk the LAN connection status Icon in sys tray & clk 'Support' Tab) . . 3rd: start a normal game, go to 'Join Game /Add Server' & enter your LAN IP address with your dedicated's port at the end 'XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX-port' /clk OK . . now you can't tell us that won't be the most fun you've had all day
then all we need to do is make sure your Router is 'forwarding' incoming port requests to the Dedi (& franks already given you that site) |

Ahh a wireless router.
I've had no success in helping those that use a wireless. It probably has to do that they have added security features that the regulars don't.
I am getting tempted to buy one, just so I can figure it out but I don't need a wireless. My PCs are close enough that I don't need on. Plus when you have a wireless, if you don't configure it correctly, people can steal you bandwidth.
Trust me. My friends can get wireless internet service here at my house using his lap top.

Ok, well I downloaded rf server assist 4 and did all that ng_zz stated above in his last post, but I still can't see my server on the rf server browser. |

KERPAL sorry I can't help you any further but if you want I can email you the tutorial I did for the linksys router a few months ago...maybe a couple of years. Any way, like I stated on top. I am baffled why people can't get their servers to show up when using a wireless router. Also if it's a wireless router, does it have any ports where you can add a PC using a Ethernet cable instead of the wireless card. And if so, have you tried running that way? |

You know the best part of not configuring your router properly is when its not yours and you have been connected to it for months.
Nah dont sweat it, i was only connected for the time MY internet was down. (damn the neighbors must be rich because it was FAST) |

Let me ask you this, are you sure you are forwarding the port on the correct PC?
This is a screen shot of my ports that I have open on my router:

As you can see my server PC has the number set to 103.
You can find out what your LAN IP address is by doing this:
1. Click the start windows key.
2. From the pop up menu, click Run.
3. In the box, type in cmd /k ipconfig (on Windows XP)
You will see a black box pop up and there you will find the LAN IP address on that computer in which you just type that in. For the server PC, you will need to do it from that one. The last 3 numbers are the ones you need to remember. Also unless you assign the PC the LAN IP, it can change every time you reboot the PC. |

Isn't this just the standard UDP problem of not being able to use 2 applications on one port because it's connection less?
Try running a dedicated server, leave it on the standard port you already have it running on. Next when you want to join your server, first go to RedFaction.exe -->Setup -->Misc -->Force Port and put it to a different port then where you have the server running on. Start the game et voila ... You can see the server too.
If everyone else can see it, it hasn't got a thing to do with forwarding ports and stuff. |

oh yea, i would recommend setting your router to have a passworded login to prevent leechers such as myself when caught without internet for about a month from logging onto your router and stealing your bandwith... there is also (dont know if this is standard among wireless routers or not) a mac address security measure where ONLY the entered mac addresses of the corresponding computers may login as well. I havent tinkered with it personally but im sure it works. There is also data encryption etc etc. IMO the more paranoid you are, data encryption and all that is still there at your disposal. |
