Because Im ignorant, and am quite a newb beyond what little information that horrible "help" tutorial gives you in RED, I require help. More or less hold-my-hand-to-cross-the-street help. I would love to create stuff on RED, and have some great ideas for some cool urban warfare style maps, but cant seem to figure out the interface of RED. Its not much to ask. Just maybe someone can meet up with me on AIM or YIM, and help to walk me through some things. How to make an outdoors level that doesnt look like a big box. How to add stuff too a room. How to custom build models like cars and stuff to add in levels. How to make weapons. Im quite lost. Ive tried to figure it out on my own, but, Ive gotten bored and moved on. Perhaps someone can give me a link or something with a detailed tutorial of some sorts? I dunno. Any help is appreciated.
Ive had RF since it came out, and never really fiddled with the editor till now. I guess I noticed the lack of urban combat and town levels, and felt the need to make something cool. Cant seem to figure out Unreal Editor either, so if anyone can help me with that too. But mainly just RED.

That help refrence that came with RED has helped guide me to practally everything i know about RED mapping. Now Unreal ED on the other side is alot harder than RED to figure out. It's also alot more powerful on the other hand.
Becoming a mapper, modder, coder, modeler, animator, etc. takes time and most of all patience. passion for whatever you are working on will help out alot, trust me.  Also becoming either of those i listed will not happen overnight it takes days, weeks, months, even years... The best part though, you will learn more and more as you progress with experience. Learning shortcuts to create complex things that normally would take a noob a long time to figure out and probably not turn out as well.
Since you are starting to take your first steps into the 3d enviornment world i recommend you go to www.3dbuzz.com take a look at their 3ds max / maya sections on picking up good 3d creation techniques. some handy features located within those programs are not available in RED but just take a look at that website. It makes learning fun and it will cut down your learning time of the 3d world and let you in on some very powerful modeling techniques you can use in RED with the exception of its limited selection of tools. Registration is free and you may download GB's worth of video training modules absloutley free. I highly recommend this website. 3Dbuzz.com is run by the smartest people on the planet. I respect them very much. 
In sum RED Tech is a good place to pick up on techniques and work arounds for kinks in the RED editor but if you really want to become serious in 3D or just learn anything 3D related, C++ related, 2D related, pretty much anything in the media creation in the PC realm this site is the right spot. They have online classes and they even teach advanced mathematics. This site is the most valuable soruce of information on the entire internet IMO.

If you are barely starting out, may I suggest doing the tutorials at:
Distorted Productions
Once you have completed those tutorials then you might want to look to:
Red Technologies
That site has more advance tutorials and offers a lot of help in the type of stuff you are interested in doing. But only go to this site after you have completed the other tutorials, this way you have a better understanding of RED and you will be able to find what you need. |

Wow. Thanks. Guess Ill start with the noobie guides, then work my way up. Hopefully Ill get good enough someday to make my dream map*.
*Dream map= Quarter mile long road through the middle of a town. buildings on each side of the road. burnt out cars in the street and such. Most buidlings on side of road would be generic, cept 4. one being a cool donut shop, one being a gaming store, and right in the middle of the map, an 8 story skyscraper on one side, with open windows to the 6th floor, and a church across the street from that with a tower the same height at the skyscraper, only, it provides a higher sniping spot. Everything blow-up-able. warehouses that serve as bases on each end of the streets. Also have some back alleys and such, and secret sewers and ventilation shafts that lead into different buildings, and even into the other bases. It will be cool, and I will make it someday... |

Hopefully you get our skills up and make that map. It would be a really cool CTF or TDM level, I'm lookin forward to it. |
