my computer kept on freezing evey now and then and yesterday it would no dial up properly. every time it dialed and got to the bit where it says verifing user name and password,it would say "disconected error 619 port not conected, try restarting for the new setings to take place"
im like CENSORED so then i did restart and it finally conected but took ages. then i joined RF and it was lagy like crap and 3 minuts into the game the computer froze completly and had to be turned off with soft power off(hold down power button for 4 sec) u know those freezes where the picture stops and the sound goes into a fast loop and u cant do any thing about it, like when u have a faulty mobo or video card. its done this sort of thing countless amounts of times over 6 months. well i got a new modem and all is good now, so if any 1 gets an unsable system then checking things like modem, LAN card or even keyboards may solve you problem. so dont blow away all of your money geting new bits like cpu's and mobo's look at things like power supply and if your modem is more then 4 years old get a new 1. oh and check if you cpu is got good contact on all of its pins coz i had that to especally if u got an amd K7 thay are bastards for that |

That's your mobo makers fault not you chip manufacturer fault
since logically they make the chip then the motherboard for a system. |

Another very common problem is a too hot CPU. (I built my own PC together out of loose components and already had this problem before)
I somehow didn't apply the heatsink and coolpaste correctly, I have a 2 bear ball Zalman ultra silent heatsink. Quite heavy for a heatsink and has to be applied to the motherboard instead of the socket mainly because of it's weight and size ... Though quite soundless and does a good job on cooling.
When I didn't apply it correctly it caught they heat ... Though ... when I went into a game like RedFaction it would take more CPU and thus more heat. After a minute or 5 the proccessor became soo hot that it just totally frooze my PC, each and each time. After a quick look on the Temperature Monitor I didn't see much ... It was a little high ... but not concerning. I decided to do a task that requires quite some CPU (a benchmark) and found out the whole proccessor would heat up instantly to 80+ degrees centigrade and freeze in the end.
My older motherboard had a C.O.P. (CPU Overheat Protection) system which I liked a lot, it would just turn my PC off when it got too hot, rather then freezing the whole place up ... |

I would suggest something from ThermalTake. Although, that may just be me. I have a ThermalTake Volcano 11+ Xaser Edition and it keeps my cpu air cooled @ 38C on idle.
My cpu is an AMD Athlon XP+3000 oc'd @ 2.3GHz. |

Hey man, This ultrasilent cooler makes almost no noise AND cooles my overclocked AMD even alot better then a standard cooler. I have an ultra silent system, including an ultra silent power source. When I put it down to maximum silence (I can manually control the fan speed via some applications on my PC) it is hard to detect the PC is even running. Maybe if I add some noisecatching stuff (you know that black stuff? I only know the name in Dutch lol) I could lower it down to ... No noise? lol. But then ... I would have to find a way to carry away the heat.
Well, my PC is silent enough already ... no need to go even further. |

Yea, mine sounds like my sister's hair dryer But it's pumping air pretty nicely though! lol
I can always lower the speed of my fan via pc proggies, but I just use the knobs I placed on the back in place of a PCI slot. Also, ThermalTake PurePower Silent Xaser Edition 480 watt PSU is silent My cpu fan makes my rig sound like 5 servers running in a 4x4 boxed room though! lol |

Computer ships also have built-in shutdown too. Like intel ... Intel has heat problems with their chips so it has a circuit built in that slows down the chip or shuts it off if it gets too hot. Amd, does not because it doesn't have heating problems as much, usually its the "builder error" when the chip overheats, probably because they did not put enough thermal paste on there.
sobe, Mine is like that too yet not as hot ... i put like 6 fans on the thing just for the hell of it. (i had extra fans lying around) its still not as loud as yours though .
... i think i possibly have too many fans when you can see the wires moving inside the case when its on ... |

One of the most overlooked things is how the wires are set. Some people spend hundreds on a spiffy fan system, but forget to direct the airflow properly. If you have a drive or bundle of wires where the air needs to go, you're only setting yourself up for failure. The best thing to do is to get the spiffy wire that comes with a loaf of bread, cut it to length (trial and error), then bundle the wires together. As far as drives, you would have to reconfigure the entire machine to get the drives in a proper order. |

this is true ... if your airflow is screwed up it's hard for you computer to breathe, all you have to do is make sure the aiflow is going from from to back (or vice versa but it would be harder to do so and it would be stupid/weird too.)
As for Wires? two words: Zip Ties. just tie them down out of the way of the fans and other clustered areas to prevent blocking air.
... heh, my airflow setup probably sucks on mine so who am i to talk.
Edit: oh, and blow the comp out with a can of air or a compressor once in a while people ... dust bunnies are like gremlins ... (sort of). |

Dust bunnies are like infectious viruses! They slow down your computer to a tortoise's pace! |

You will find various of things slow down your computer. Programs that start up with windows, files that take up numberous space of hard drive that the computer has to load each time but takes a while. |
