SYMPTOMS
On a Windows XP-based computer, if you are using a Creative Labs Sound Blaster Live! sound card, the computer may seem to play sounds but you do not hear any audio playback.

CAUSE
This issue can occur because of an incompatibility between the playback configurations of the sound card driver and the settings in the Windows XP volume controls; you can configure both the sound card software and the Windows XP volume controls to use either analog output or digital output.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, you may need to change the output setting from digital to analog in the Windows XP volume controls:
1. Click Start, point to All Programs, point to Accessories, point to Entertainment, and then click Volume Control.
2. In Volume Control, on the Options menu, click Advanced Controls.
3. Click Advanced Options on the Play Control dialog box.
4. Click to clear the Digital Output Only check box, and then click Close.

NOTE: If you cleared the Digital Output Only check box before you updated the driver, turn on the digital playback, and then test the audio playback.

If that should fail to work, then your sound card is probably not an EAX soundcard. In which case, I would need to know your sound card specs... So if you could post the specs here. Also, if it is integrated, don't even worry about EAX, that is a definite no, the integrated sound card does NOT have EAX capabilities.

I assume you are using an ASUS motherboard with onboard Sound Max. I have that on my pc, except I purchased a Creative Labs Sound Blaster Audigy Gamer and uninstalled everything related to Sound Max(caused issues with games, etc. while sound card was installed).

If I may, I would suggest to you an Audigy card from somewhere, they are fairly cheap. I purchased mine when it was $99, however, you can get the same card I have for about $50 or so. Anyway, EAX isn't that much different from regular sound... Just better depth into audio sounds, such as continual "vibrations", or echos, etc.

To install a sound card, just look for the usually white slots towards the bottom of your motherboard. Plug it in, install the drivers that come with the installation disk, restart computer, and voila.

Any other problems can be directed towards me, L4Y, or Tech Nominal(sometimes when I can't reach you the fastest on another site I can help you faster on my own site).
