Yesterday was my father's funeral and afterwards there was a wake which turned into a wild party. During this party I and up to five other friends played RF in Dinner is Served. While we were conducting scientific research a certain player by the name of dede stopped by and said hi. Promptly after this polite greeting we were graced by the sound of rapid fire and the sight of a player flying thru the terrain. 
Under normal circumstances I would have engaged the alleged modder in conversation. Because I would rather not ban anyone from my server. However, the keg and the irish whiskies prevented me from my normal train of thought and instead of conversing with the alleged modder - I banned him/her. I feel bad about this and I would like to offer an apology to the person in question, especially if this was a drunken mistake. 
If your IP is 84.56.212.176 - drop me a PM and we can talk about this incident.

You should not feel obligated to appologize to any modder that comes into your server. After 4-5 years of playing RF, they (modders) should know that they get banned on the spot by many servers. Don't worry about it, he deserved it. |

Yes you are correct this situation would appear to be disturbing as long as it is put in the wrong context. My old man was a genius and a graphic artist who loved his computer and got a big kick out of Red Faction - the Geo potential surprised him!
The truth of the matter is modders have visited my server before and just by talking to them, I was able to get them to turn the mods off or leave. This is the first time I banned someone. Do I actually feel bad? Not really - unless it was a mistake.
Otherwise my apology to the modder is a thinly veiled excuse to publicize the IP! |

I see, so you want some one to come along and "Hack" this "dede's" computer... I could do that but the only thing I can provide is Remotely shut down his/her computer, depending if they are stupid enough NOT to have a firewall enabled.
You should leave this Dede banned from your server, then in the future, you won't get that same user coming to your server and spoiling your game.
Infact, you should ban all modders that enter your server. They will never return again... |

I don't mind banning modders but, I have discovered that some can be cool about things. 
Modders can take pride in their hacks, and non-modders can take pride in their purity. There is room for both - just not in the same server. So I would like to publicly advocate that modders should practice their art in modding servers. 
PS: My hangover has alleviated considerably since I started this strange thread and if l4y administrators see fit - they can delete it. But I have to admit that I wanted to thank the players who visited during the evening of December 10th. It was a lot of fun! |

Thats more like it! when i have a funeral I dont want anyone to be sad; beers and drugs for everyone yes?

errr. anaways, i hate modders and they should be banned on sight but hapa hanu i see where your coming from, just to give them a chance. but most dont care.  |

Hapa Hanu if you want a longer list of banned IPs, send me a PM. They are all from cheaters and maybe 1-5 from players accusing other player of cheating without any real knowledtge. You know the ones that after a while get on your nerves and you are forced to banned those puppies.
Also, sorry to hear about your father passing. I know you had told me earlier but I neglected to say anything about it. As you know, I've been busy. I lost my father 3 years ago and it's not an easy thing to. Sure it gets easier with time but that doesn't mean you forget about him/them. |

Thank you everyone for your kind thoughts and for not banning me from l4y for my superflous and misplaced thread (can I get away with blaming the booze?).
I realize that everyone has lost someone whether it is a parent, a sibling, a child or a friend and only the memory remains. Sure it hurts. However we should celebrate the life and as D2k mentioned - PARTY!
My old man in the 90's worked at an educational software company and after hours everyday they would play DOOM on the corporate LAN. Here is an image my old man created that was inspired by those unsanctioned activities:

well, if the conditions were prime, a person could gain remote access. logically most people who do not have firewalls are not bright enough to set a admin password. if they happened to have their remote access set just right, you could get on their desktop and really freak them out ,like create a background that says "we know where you live MODDER!!" i think that will cure his/her modding disability in RF really quick. (or cause him to get a firewall )(i left out details of how so as not to give people bad ideas, so even if you do know, don't try it).
but i highly doubt that the conditions would ever happen anyway ... |
