Hi im working on a ww2 map, and ive come to a point that when i move the camera in red editor (try to look around) it crashes... Heres my build thing:
Adding brush: 414/414
Cleaning final geometry...
Building rooms...
Fixing up texture uvs for ps2...
Had to add 88 faces to fix ps2 tiling.
Fixing any t-joints...
Fixed 291 t-joints.
Checking for holes...
Found 0 holes
Brushes: 414
Portals: 0
Rooms: 55
Faces: 6279/10500
Face Vertices: 29911/50400
Vertices: 8651/13650
Rays recast: 9/18987

Timings:

Booleans: 2.200 s
Removing Bogus Solids: 0.216 s
Room creation: 0.457 s
Other: 2.536 s
Total time: 5.409 s

WOW! 88 Ps2s!!! and 291 t-joints, should start wityh taking them out, and adding in some portals.

how do u get rid of them? And how can i add portals if i cant move camera ^^

And that's why every few small brushes you make that are near each other, you need to make a few backups.

For ctf-cs_assault I have made 10 backups currently because of issues with RED. And I can't really add portals to a wide open area.... I have portals for entering the warehouse.. That's about it

thats not that bad, mine was 30 times worse. but mine kept on crashing to an unrelated cpu/mobo problem.

edit: my tower of snipers map has somthing like 1068 ps2 tilling and it still worked and finished that map

it didnt have any geo.

Do not move in your free look.

Goto View >>> Render Nothing

Then add some portals, go to Red Tech on how to use portals.

Once the map is split up there shouldn't be too many problems.

just add one, or two HUGE ones going through the full map.

that was the first thing i learned when learning to map. now i get EXTREMLY anoyed when i play a map and no brushes are "Snaped To Grid". it is probably about the most valuable mapping technique too. i always move my brushes and objects in top or front or left. the only time i even use Free Look is when i need to get a perspective of what the map looks like.

I tried that you goober! It still had the same result, therefor I am resulting to use portals in smaller areas where lots of brushes are located! This should help those single areas that are crashing the map in RED and RF.

Sometimes when RED crashes on me with a Huge map ive made, When I come back to load it up, all the brushes disappear and im left with only the Objects.. That sucks bad too.

yea me too, in that case i just use the dm/ctf-<your map name>~.rfl or the one in the .vpp file.
