Well for the price it's going at ($0.99), it's a great bargain
The card is very good. It's more powerful than my X800, and mine runs BF2, HL2 and all the other powerful games. So i say "Hell Yea!" |

Hell of a deal! I'd get it.. even if the product doesn't show up.. you only paid $10 for it! Downside is... that card is really CRAPPY compared to a newer/better card. Another hint, You shouldn't have showed it on a website where 1000's of people might look at it and then outbid you! People like me. |

If you want to be able to play newer games, the FX5500 isn't worth the money.
Quoting The_Doc | It's more powerful than my X800 |
The FX5500 isn't even close to compete with a X800 series card. |

I was just about to post the same thing. I had a FX5600 and it was OK... a year ago... but now I have a X800 XL and its like so much better, it can run F.E.A.R, BF2, etc etc.
oh and it can run Red Faction |

My STB Velocity 128 4MB won't play RF
Anyway, since NewEgg does not sell 6800 Ultra cards and I can't find an AMD compatable mobo w/PCI-E via NewEgg except for JetWay... Which I don't trust.. I am having to look for a 6800GT or 6800 Ultra in AGP 8x...
Soooo, I would suggest a card to you, a 6600GT. They are excellent cards. Mine can play Doom 3, Half-Life 2(full settings including HDR), CounterStrike: Source(full settings including HDR, HDR is recommended for this card), F.E.A.R, Battlefield 2, etc. It may cost you around $150-$210, but it's worth it. Mine is oc'd @ 1,000MHz memory clock and 500MHz core clock. So it's damn decent |

Unless you have $600+ to spend on a vid card, don't even worry about the 7800GTX. I would suggest the 6600GT. Great card at a decent price for now. Also, for further info my next upgrade will be to either a 6800GT or 7800GT. 7800GT is only $399. And 6800GT is only around $284.
Here is a 6800GT:
eVGA 256-A8-N344-AX Geforce 6800GT 256MB GDDR3 AGP 4X/8X Video Card
That will more than suffice. Also, it's AGP 4x/8x, so no need for upgrading your mobo, then needing to upgrade your cpu, and getting a PCI-E vid card.

Some people believe that they need the new Geforce 7800GTX or the ATI X850XTPE to play games such as HL2 or Fear, this is just not so! All you really need to play those games is a 6600GT which can be had for under 200 bucks! And you sure as hell don't need SLY mode, thats for geeks who have money who think they have something to prove. If your system is chugging on games like HL2 or Fear, than mabie your CPU is too slow. to play HL2 or Fear well, you need at least a 3.6GZ Intel CPU or a AMD64 3200+. A bear minnimum CPU to play HL2 would be 1.6GZ. A bear minnimum CPU to play Fear would be 2GHZ.
My plan for my new computer will be simple! AMD64 4000+ 6800GT video and 2gigs of corsair xms memory and that kind of setup should handle games for 3 years later before another serious upgrade! Learn to not get sucked into the hype as many have and start doing research. You will find by reading in many forums what hardware you really need to handle the job. And don't listen to people who nag you cause you are waiting too long to upgrade your system. These people believe that if you wait there will be something better therefor you are a bad person for not hurrying up and waisting your money. I have a friend who says that so I know what I am talking about. |

Actually Terminator, HL2 and F.E.A.R do not need a 3.6GHz cpu.... No game on the market today will need that kind of cpu power. And you don't need a 6600GT just to play HL2! You can use an Nvidia GeForce 4 MX440... I am running HL2 on my mom's eMachines which has the following specs:
Quote | Computer 2 Details
Processor AMD Athlon XP+3000
Memory (RAM) 512MB DDR333
Graphics Integrated Nvidia GeForce 4 MX 440 64MB
OS WinXP Home w/SP2
Harddrive(s) 160GB ATA
Monitor(s) eMachines
Soundcard Integrated
Net Connection DSL @ 1.5MB/s
Other Details It's an eMachines! |
Runs perfect in fact. All the settings are on low/medium, but it still looks kick CENSORED
And about the hypes such as PCI-E, etc. You really don't need a PCI-E card atm. Just wait until another couple months or so and see how much farther PCI-E advances. After that, I would suggest you make a choice of AGP 8x or PCI-E. And the GTX version of the 7800 is just plain too expensive. Especially when the only difference is 4 pipelines! The 7800GT can be found for only $399 or less and is about the same speed as the GTX model. So why spend almost twice as much on a small increase in speed?
And cpu wise, I am still running 32-bit here. I don't want to purchase a 64-bit until all the Win64 Pro bugs are fixed and more 64-bit drivers become available. |

Actually, 32bit processors are GONE as well as AGP vid cards. Anything you find in 32 bit processors now is backstock or runoffs. The fact that there is not a 7800 board with AGP pretty much proves that AGP is gone. So lets move on and stop talking about all that old stuff. (even though I still have an AMD 3200 32bit and a 6800GT ) I just don't have any need at all to upgrade. Here are the games I play/played RF (runs 120fps no probs), Far Cry (ran 80fps no prob), Painkiller (ran 100fps or more no prob), HL2(runs over 100fps no prob), UT2004(runs 100fps no prob). So why do I need to upgrade, the answer is I DON'T!
Now, on the other hand, if I were to upgrade..... and some are talking about it here (Termy ) I would not even consider an AGP card or anything less then a 7800. I would not consider a 32bit proc. There is a lot more to all this, AMD is dropping all of it's processors by summer and going standard with a 940 socket. Intel is also making a huge change in the near future and is finally giving up on it's GHZ race. (that could mean that by this time next year the fastest proc on the market could be a 2.5GHZ does that mean it won't play HL2?
Terminator, I would suggest you drop a gig of ram and put that money toward a 7800 on your wishlist. You will get more performance/$ and it's MUCH easier and cheaper to upgrade ram later then a vid card. No sence wasting $$$ on a 2 year old vid card.
As for the original topic here, replacing a 9200 with a 5500 is kinda like replacing dog poop with cat poop. It's still poop (can I say poop here? ) |
