So you probably read that at PREDTECH?

I just make a solid detailed brush with 96 life and texture it with glass and its done.

There are different ways to make glass. You can either have glass that will smash into shreds when shot, or you can have glass that will disappear when shot.

If you are making glass that will disappear when shot, just use a normal brush with detail properties selected and teture it with the glass texture.

If you want to make glass that will shatter when shot, follow these steps.

1) In brush mode, select the brush type "Face".
2) Create brush.
3) Right click on the brush you just made and go to properties.
4) Tick the box "Is Detailed" and set the Life to about 100 and click ok. (-1 means it doesnt shatter when shot (Bullet Proof)
5) Build Geomentry (usually the Space bar button)
6) Texture the face on both sides with the glass texture.
7) Build Geomentry.

You will have a glass that will shatter when shot.

If its too small or too big, use the vertex mode to resize it.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Face brush type uses "Radious" for size so you would be better off using Vertex to get the face to the shape you want.

Instead of using Vertex mode, you can select the face, click "Stretch" and then type in the exact hight and width you want it to be.

lace i was curios why do you frequintly come in and post some other way that it could be done, maby its just me but it almost seems like you want to humble these good people, im sure that the help is apriciated but your kinda comming across as one of those stuck up "pro mappers" or whatever they call them these days. i mean vertext mode works fine to get the job done, if it works for him why tell him another way to do it? it will just confuse him and make other people feal bad. maby im just over reacting but i think you shold be alittle more humble

What is wrong with saying there are more ways to do it? Let's say you want a face H=2,25 x W=1,25 meters. What is easiest; typing the measures directly into the appropriate boxes, or using the vertex mode and move the vertexes around?

Its always better to know more than one way to do things. This way if one way doesn't work, you can try the other.

Lace has been around for quite awhile and knows her stuff. If she had come in and said that the other idea was crap, and that it can only be done her way, you might have a legitimate gripe, but she nicely offered another way to do it.

And what is this crap about Pro Mappers? There are experienced mappers, but I doubt anyone is getting paid for their work. Yes, there are some mappers that have an inflated ego, but don't immediately expect that they're ALL like that.

GTA personally the way that Lace described the way to do it is the easier way to go. Doing it through vertex mod would probably make it harder for somebody trying to do what he is trying to do.
Just so you now, this isn't one of those things where we are just supporting a staff member, just stating a fact.

well there are occasions where vertex is easier, because when you have to have the window or whatever be very precise and you have some odd window size, its very hard trying to move the window exactly where you want. like the situation i had 30 min ago ...

Or you can just make it have no depth before building the brush.

Or you can just make it have no depth before building the brush.

A face has a depth of 0.00 by default
If it is hard to place the windowsface exactly in the opening, make it a little wider and higher than the airbrush you want to place it into.
