Greeeeeetings Gentle Forum Wanderers,

I have looked thru ~1800 DM maps looking for .wav's to convert into .aif and I have finished. There are 395 custom DM maps that use custom sounds. I have not tested all the maps on the Mac yet, but there are four groups that have been triple checked and the custom sounds are Mac safe!

I have uploaded these Mac triple checked .vpp's for NoClanFrank to review and I haven't heard back from him...

If anyone else is interested in reviewing what I have wrought:

Otherwise if any changes need to be made regarding custom sounds, please, let me know so I can make it right for SCIENCE!

These links are good for 25 downloads and a couple more days from now - save one for NoClanFrank if he hasn't grabbed them yet. Yousendit.com usually works fairly well, but sometimes it fails! lol

Please note: these uploads are .vpp's only - no pics or read me's. These files are intended for review not distribution per say. Also, .aif files are typically smaller than original .wav files.

While I am here yakking away I would like to make a free offer! If anyone wants .wav converted into .aif let me know - I am willing to do it anonymously!

Sorry Hoser, I mean Vern.
I have been busy these last couple of days. I won't be able to look at side files until this Thursday or Friday.
There is one problem with the files though. The renaming actually might prevent some of the Red Faction dedicated program from reading the files. I know Hermit fixed that with his latest RFSA program. The thing that happens is when you double click it with a .vpp viewer and the .vpp isn't name exactly the same as the .rfl, it won't tell me the level properties. You know the level name and the authors name.
That is something, I need to test. This is another reason I was thinking that maybe you should keep the file names the same but just add a note stating that they are MAC user friendly.
Also congrats on finally getting an avatar for the site.
* Leaves for another busy day at work. *

Oh? You like my avatar? * blush *

It is an enraged Harpo Marx! * grrrrr * LMAO

Otherwise no sweat man - the +a can be removed from the .aif augmented .vpp's!

When the suffix +a is removed from .vpp title the level properties become "re-visible" to VPP Viewer without any hassle, I quadruple checked.

I was unaware that a .vpp title change would adversely effect server operations. I have never used the application executable RFSA and I am unfamiliar with it's workings.

Using one of my Macs as a dedicated LAN only server - I (we - up to six Mac users at a time) have tested 184 maps with +a suffix and I have not been able to trace any failures to the .vpp title change. * skull scratching *

To reiterate:
+a can be removed from title with no consequences
include empty text file alongside .aif augmented .vpp and title it "Mac Safe Sound"

LOOK OUT VERN!

PS: It is a lot easier to distinguish +a/+wa files from 1800 files spread across as many as eight computers - this is the other reason I added suffix to .vpp title.

As it turns out. I was busy today also and will be busy tomorrow night. I just got home about an hour ago. But my Saturday is free. So I will double check them to see if RFSA 4 can see the file names with the +A on the .vpp. Not having the +A just makes it easier to know who the author is. It came in handy back when you could submit a file here without filling out the authors name on the upload page. So you see, our boss Garner has made some improvements to the site that help us staffers out. It was a pain before when they didn't let us know who the author was.
