i have a question. ive got my board installed and running fine, but im curious about my 8channel audio. im using dolby 5.1 speakers, but whenever i set the speaker config to 5.1, not all my speakers are working. if i set it to 7.1 they work, but they just dont sound as good as they did on my old 6channel audio card.
i guess my real question is do you know of any kind of software program i can use to fine tune my speaker configuration? my old board came with one. this board has this VERY limited configuration selection menu, with no setup software or anything. i googled the "realtek 850 8 channel audio codecs" im using, but didnt find anything related to what im looking for. just driver downloads, and product sales.
thanks in advance.
I updated the ones for my mobo and it installed some cool sound properties thing. It might give you some more options... what about the settings under the control panel for sound?
Sorry im probably not helping much either.
Meh...

actually skip you were dead on. i was reading my mobo manual, and it said i needed to reinstall my drivers AFTER putting directX9 on my system. so only the essential drivers were installed. after i put them on it comes with an NVidia audio software that helped me out alot. only one problem now tho. all of my speakers work when gaming, but my rear channels dont work during playback on my WMP. i tried switching them to all 8 channels, and still nothing. i guess im gonna have to run out and buy a new 7.1 speaker system to go with my new system.
Windows Media Player was designed to be a video player and radio streamer, it was never meant to play MP3's like other MP3 players do I agree with SkipRat, Winamp is my favorite MP3 player but I also use Creative Playcenter which is software that comes with my Creative Blaster 5.1 Live Card
