Whenever I try to add a page to my CDC, I get and error that says:
"Error: Your page must contain content. Todelete a page choose that option from the page manager"

Has anyone else expirienced this Error?

Does anyone know how to fix it?

Well firstly, You posted in the wrong area .

Try contacting Garner (Administrator) about this issue.

On a computer issue, Check and make sure you are using Internet Explorer 6 or higher or make sure pop ups are not being blocked on this site by your Pop Up Blocker if you have installed Windows XP SP2

Hmmn... Well: I do have a popup blocker but its set so it doesn't block anything from L4Y. I can't find anything wrong on my end. I'm off to try again to see if its gotten better.

I've got SP2 because we kept getting "security issues". Unfortunatley SP2 didn't work with the Cannon PSC i had so i had to get a HP printer. Damn cannon couldn't fix the incompatability with their software. Also all other times i've submitted things such as news it would work fine.

Its actually a known issue im afraid.

There are several problems with CDCs.

If you try to add a new page it doesnt work properly, if you try to edit a page it also messes up... I think the only thing you can do ATM is post news...
Garner is aware of it and hopefully will be fixing it at some point.

This happens throughout L4Y, not just in the CDC. I use Mozilla Firefox, and I get this quite often. Perhaps it's just L4Y's ignorance of FF, or maybe the Gecko engine's improper rendering of Garner's FF fix, but it seems like every other page I get this or a similar error.

Just getting to this thread I experienced several "page load errors", and other unexplained errors (just sent me to "chrome:firefox/<letters>", an internal error page that infinately reloads. Why FF has this, I know not, but it destroys your browser and Internet connection if you don't catch this in time).

Probably on submission I'll get a similar error, which is why I've taken to the fun of copying all my text before submitting. However, I'll often get a report from L4Y that it did receive my post, although FF seems to have crashed before it sent it. As such, I'll either double-post or my account will freeze for a little while.

As far as other errors (as we're already here), the DB seems to be half dead on the weekends and early and late in the week. Other than Tuesday (which I hate them thar Tuesdays), Wenesday, and Thursday, L4Y has this tendency to stop loading whenever it hits a "redirect" page (like the PM pages, post submission pages, etc). Is this a DB error, FF error, or simply DB overloading?

When's the new server going up Garner?

I think the server is kind of struggling due to PC. If PC wasnt here the website would be fine. Its the amount of DB queries im guessing.

however, the errors you are talking about we are all getting errors, the only error I have been recieving is Error 500. Its not too often. but it has increased in frequency since End Game event has begun in PC.

DG uses firefox maybe PM asking him if he has any similar problems?

either that or get a better browser like OPERA

The site doesn't care what browser you're using... there is no FF specific fix for anything either. The exact same content is displayed to any browser requesting any given page.

Yes, but you must make changes in the code for the Gecko engine:

Quoting The Source
function givemeasmile(smile) {
     if (document.selection) {
          // IE Version
          tfp.texta.focus();
          sel = document.selection.createRange();
          sel.text = smile;
     } else if (tfp.texta.selectionStart || tfp.texta.selectionStart == '0') {
          // Mozilla Version
          var startPos = tfp.texta.selectionStart;
          var endPos = tfp.texta.selectionEnd;
          tfp.texta.value = tfp.texta.value.substring(0, startPos) + smile + tfp.texta.value.substring(endPos, tfp.texta.value.length);
          tfp.texta.focus();
     }
else {
          //Other
          tfp.texta.focus();
          tfp.texta.value += smile;
     }

}

Is it not true, Mr. Garner, that there is a selection case for the Gecko engine? I have highlighted it in bold, you cannot deny it! <laughs maniachally>

Basically said, the Gecko engine requires some modifications in JS and DHTML code for it to be visible. This is true, to a far lesser extent, for HTML (Mozilla.org says that FF has 99% compliance with existing code, but only 99%).

Thus, you must make some provisions when you write the code for FF to properly display it, as the Gecko engine cannot be changed this fundamentally. Sure, Mozilla.org is trying their best to improve Gecko's compliance, but it just won't submit. One hypothosizes that they plan to release FF 2.0 only when 100% compliance is reached (so we might see a lot of v1.9.xxxxxx versions for a while).

If they suddenly changed the engine overnight, they risk existing provisions to crash (because if there's code to detect the Gecko engine, and its behaving like the IE engine (code name has been lost, and is now just refered to as "Explorer engine"), there's a problem. As it is the Gecko by design, but is acting like Explorer, the code will process it like Gecko (as that is what its tags would say). However, since it is working like IE, it can't process the code natively. Either the Mozilla Foundation (Mozilla.org's "bosses"), hereafter refered to as "the Foundation", would have to cross-compile the code (horribly slowing down the code), or they'd have to rename its tags to Explorer version (creating horrible copyright violations). As such, Gecko can't work perfectly unless the Foundation spends some time in antitrust court to get MS to let Gecko process IE code natively, without exception. However, if they do this, Gecko essentially becomes Explorer, and as such, the Foundation's cause (basically to create an alternative to corporate hedgemony and all that) is lost in their own drive to have 100% compliance).

Thus, L4Y can't 100% support FF, and as such, these errors are ineveitable. I don't know which engine Opera uses, but if it predominately uses Gecko, it will experience similar problems sooner or later (perhaps they've already figured a way out to cross-compile IE code instantly, or maybe they've settled secretly with MS to allow Explorer to natively run in the Gecko engine. Perhaps they have the mysterious (and unknown, which is why I call this a conspiracy theory at best) "third engine", the perfect one that can compile all code natively. If they do, why don't they publicize this (probably because MS would sue them)?).

Anyway, its probably PC running into the End Game event, which is straining the server. It has stepped up in frequency since then, but not as much as you're thinking, Beat. I'd say it probably increased only in sevarity, not frequency (as in, when I get the error, I can't hit the "back" button to recover my work).

How big is Opera? I've always wanted to see how it works, and why not use it to test if FF has the problem or if it's the DB?

It depends on the version, the newer version are slightly bigger than the version I have, which is the reason I haven't updated. Its well worth it though im on stingy 56k, and I had the time to download it.

Sorry for re-opening a slightly old thread (PM might have worked better, but most folks don't reply to PMs not about L4Y content), however:

About how big is the update (might explain why I can't update yet, I'm still on 1.0.7, and isn't 1.5 supposed to be up?).

and yeppers I have been getting a lot of page not found errors too, but my favorite L4Y error message is my new signature, reminds me of my old Magic 8 Ball when I was a kid - too funny?
