I haven't mapped since pretty much the beginning of school (been busy with football), however the season just ended, and I went to open RED again, and when I'm mapping the screen will flicker/pause, and after about 10 minutes or so the entire computer will freeze up (good, I have to cold boot it)... so right now my RED is pretty much hosed. RF itself isn't doing it, (it runs fine), and I've checked the standard things that cause RF to goof itself. I haven't updated my DirectX in that time when I wasn't doing anything, or really anything else (I really didn't have much time other than to do homework and check email there for most of the time).
yes my computer was doing that to and it got so bad that it crashed in evey thing every 3 minuts. the probem was a bad cpu pin conection.
so try pulling out the cpu and puting it back again. i ended up get a new mobo and cpu any way coz the cpu was to slow for the video card. k hope that helps
Anyway yeah that flickering has happend to me before, but the machine only had a 8MB onboard gfx card, and that seamed to be the problem

While it may be my graphics card, I doubt it because it handles Red Faction fine, and more recent games (I spent 5 hours on AoEIII last night for example) with no problems. It is older (BFG 128MB GeForce FX 5500 OC) it still does run most new(er) games (FarCry, UT2k4, Doom 3, etc.) fine. And it handles Unreal Ed fine, and Sandbox (I tried them to make sure it wasn't some type of weird problem with map editors), and it handles resource-intensive tasks (tried messing with a large Photoshop on CS and it worked fine).
Here's my system specs if it'd help anyone:
CPU: AMD XP 3200+ (32-bit)
RAM: 1024MB PC3200
GFX CARD: BFG Tech 128MB GeForce FX 5500 OC
OS: Win XP 5.1.2600 (SP1)
DirectX: (Drivers) 4.09.00.0904 (DirectX 9.0c)
