Is there a limit for brushes in a map? |

Probably...
Depends how many faces each brush has... Work towards the face limit, not the brush limit IMO
If I told you the brush limit was 500, for example, and you created a 24-sided sphere with 20 height splits and then bevelled each face and expected to have 500 of these in your map then you wouldn't be very pleased with me
So work towards the face limit. |

Yeah , there is no such thing as a brush limit. Some maps can have over 600 brushes, but they lack in detail. The face count or the vertices are the ones to watch. |
If I ever get to where I am going, will I know when I am there? |

RFU2-Duloc has over 1200 brushes...
1000 x Wedge brushes = 5000 faces
1000 x Box Brushes = 6000 faces
1000 x Face Brushes = 1000 faces

Not unless your level is very detailed, but then again I would still try to keep the count to a minimum. |

The number of brushes the program allows before it crashes seems to be dependent on two things: computer specs and number of vertices or faces. I had some problems in my first map where I tried making a lamp with a hemisphere with max sides/splits as a base (I know, terrible idea ) and RED ended up crashing. Every time. I had to start all over from scratch, I had no old backup, and the auto-saved backup was too recent. Once I had remade the map, though, I had far more brushes than what I had previously, but far fewer vertices because I didn't have half of a sphere that time. |

Yes but he didn't take into account the fact that different shaped brushes have a different number of faces... That is the whole point! Number of brushes doesn't matter for anything, number of faces and vertices does. |
