Okay, now I am getting frustrated to say the least... Has anyone received any new replies from THQ regarding the Tracker/Server? I know that many different forums and other sites have server IP's so that we can connect and play. How long are we talking now? I can only wonder what the real issue is as I am not a tech but know that this could have easily been resolved by now.

And people wonder why I am playing so much CS:S and B2, hhhmmmm, can't imagine...

But anyway, the RF Community is still making it happen and I will try and stay positive

you mean other than them telling us/me that the master server should be back up by November 24, 2005?

Well the tracker has been down for longer than this before and they've told Frank the 24th (and who'd lie to that innocent little munchkin,Frank?).

Plus I'm sure we went through this before. THQ is a business. They want/need to make money. They tiny ammount they spend in maintaining trackers for their games is well worth it when you consider the reputation they'de gain from pulling the plug on a game that is still played.

I mean who the hell would buy a THQ game if you knew the multi side of the game could go offline at any moment?

Didn't THQ take their tracker off for updates and plus for the upcoming game Red Faction 3 for the Xbox 360?

Im just plying different games for now until their tracker is back up.

That RF3 was a hoax....

Garner, Network Admin mentioned a while back that if the tracker went offline, he would have the tracker work off this site. I don't know if that still holds true but all we can do is hope that it doesn't go offline. If it would that would mean that the few players that are left would most likely die out and the only people that would still play using a tracker would be people that would be willing to change the trackers address in the network set up of the game.

Franklin, if I may speculate sir, I do think that Mr. Garner would be kind enough to patch RF, even if he doesn't do the actual patching. Realize that we RF players are infinately resourceful (as far as we know of ), and many people here have said they know how to adjust the RF engine and possibly make patches. Sure, this is technically illegal, but if THQ stops supporting RF, I see no reason the legal license should still stand.

Quoting RF Readme

5.     This Agreement is effective upon your installation of the Program
and shall continue until revoked by Company or until you breach any
term hereof; upon termination you agree to destroy or delete all
copies of the Program in your possession.

I placed in bold the parts I wish to emphasize. I think I'd consider the "Company" stopping online support of the game as a revokation of the license.

In other, EULA-related news, after re-reading the EULA for RF, I must say I'm impressed. Their lawyers must have been up all night thinking this one up (this isn't sarcasm, by the way). They actually have everything you can think of covered under the EULA. Especially the parts about modifying and retaining the source code. Thus, everyone who has 1.3 or Lazyban (et al) has violated the EULA. So, if 1.3 is illegal, and that by hosting it on this server, Garner is in effect committing a crime, why not host a Game Tracker?

If we've already committed one crime against THQ, why not another? They really would have stopped us if they didn't like 1.3 (its been around all this time, and they haven't said a word). So, unless the "maitenance" is them patching the Game Tracker against 1.3 and any future custom versions, we're pretty safe as they would have done something by now against us.

Back on topic: if we have someone who can create another version of RF, why couldn't someone patch the RF Tracker? Its a simple matter, and anyone who knew assembly could probably do it (easier if we had the Source, as you'd just change the value of one variable, where in Assembly, one variable can span hundreds of lines (then people wonder why I don't care to learn Assembly)).

Why would you think the tracker would be illegal. It would only be illegal if we somehow made it so it still worked with the same network as before(rf.thqmultiplay.net). That would mean that we somehow hijack their site.

The other tracker that somebody created uses a different IP address. The server/host's IP address. In order for that program/tracker to be effective, it would need a static IP or address like http://redfaction.levels4you.com where the file would run from. It would allow a more permanent IP than anything else. This way people wouldn't have to continually change the network address on the set up menu, which most of us don't really see as we start the game using LazyBan.
