You are most likely giving them your network IP ... please post your IP that you gave your friends here as they are pretty distinguishable
this is what i use to get my internet IP |

That is indeed your remote IP ... noone can access that unless they are on your network.
Get the IP from either mine or D2K's link and then give your friends that followed by the port :7755
This is assuming that the ports are forwarded aswell.
PS D2K i wanted to give that link but couldnt remember it ... always forget then try to type www.whatsmyip.com which of course isnt the site |

Are you forwarding the right ports? If your not no-one will see you. |
If I ever get to where I am going, will I know when I am there? |

Im also on a Local Area Network the same as you. Port numbers, is a number thats given to an application so that it can be found by others using the same application like Red Faction for example. Port numbers are usually 4 or 5 digits long. (IP - xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx: Port numbers after IP xxxxx)
What you need to do is to access your LAN settings by typing in your LAN IP address (192.168.1.1 is the default) into your Internet Broswer. You need to go through additional setups but I would recommend that you phone up your LAN Company for Techincal assistance for "Port Forwarding".
If you mess up your settings, you might not be able to access the internet again. So please be careful what you modify. |

Quoting Gcm | what do you mean when you say forwarding? It's not a dedicated server. Red Faction is just open on the other comp. I created the game with Red Faction server stuff.
But forwarding? |
Man I thought I answered this question for you on another thread that you never replied back on. I had typed a lot of the information too.
Oh well if it wasn't you then sorry.
Read these to better understand what you need to know how to do:
Can't find your router's web server?
What is a Port?
What is Port Forwarding?
Then go to this page to find your router. Then look for your name brand and model number and click the link to find out how to configure it.
Port Forwarding
You can also view your IP from this page as well. Where is reads: Your external IP address is right above the router name list.
If you have a linksys router. I can email you a word document that will help.
I am seriously considering uploading to this site once and for all but I would probably have to convert it to a web page for those that can't open word documents.

OK I found the page. It was you.
How to find your server's IP
Quoting NoClanFrank | OK if you haven't figured it out already this is how:
1. Go here: whatismyip.com.
2. Copy that IP address, which is your IP address.
3. Now to the IP address that you have just added, add this to it: :7755, assuming that you haven't changed the default port on which Red Faction works on when creating a server.
4. Start your game.
5. Click join.
6. Click the LAN TAB.
7. Click add a server.
8. Add the IP address plus the port 7755 (example 71.105.74.210:7755 which is my IP address for the server when I run one).
9. You should now have a favorite added to you list, if you don't see it or it shows it as N/R then you are behind a firewall wall or you have not forward a port on your router.
10. If you need to forward a port on your router then I recommend you find your router on this page and read how to configure it:
Portforward.com
You will also fine some useful information on firewalls on this page as well.
11. If you use Windows XP then it also might be a firewall issue then you might want to read do this:
Q. How do I enable or disable the Windows XP Internet Connection Firewall?
A. Click Start, Control Panel, double–click Network Connections, right-click the desired connection, Properties, Advanced tab, Under Internet Connection Firewall, un-check or check the Protect my computer and network by limiting or preventing access to this computer from the Internet check box.
Also read this: Use the Internet Connection Firewall
I hope this helps. |

File sent.
I might not have mention this but sometimes on the LINKSYS router, you the server will only be able to join using the LAN IP address but other will have to join using your ISP address. |

you have to put the ip of your modem not you network card.
your ip was 192.168.0.100:7755. which looks like a net work ip coz my network ip is 192.168.0.1 almost the same as yours. but my internet ip is 220.235.210.4:7755. and thats the ip u need to give them and if you are on dial up that ip changes every time u dial up. u can find that ip by clicking on the dial up symbol in the tray and then click on the details tab, then look for client ip and then add 7755 to the end and there u go u will have a red faction server address |

Quoting skvlad01 | If you are on dial up that IP changes every time you dial up. |
That is correct but if you look at this, you will noticed what he said:
Quoting Gcm | I'm gonna leave the server up for a couple days so if you would please try those IPs that would be great, just come back and report your findings... |
That to me means that he must either have two Internet Providers or has a router sharing the same Internet Connection. |
