Note: Page Admin: do not remove this thread from the lounge. No one visits the Doom 3 section (except me anyway)
Well, last night was opening night. We got there late, and expected the theater to be packed...
Suprise #1: it was not.
Baffled at how few people there were in the theater we sat down to enjoy the intense and story driven ( HA HA!) film.
Suprise #2: the extensive line of previews made me think that were were watching the movie, and DOOM turned out to be just that.
At first, the movie stated out being extremely dramatic, with scared wussy scientists pissing their pants and running away. the movie did an OK job of setting up the characters, and making you become familiar with them and their nicknames. After In had seen the previews, I knew that the weapons were not going to be anything like those in the game, but they were worse than I thought. I only heard the names of 2 weapons that had been in the game: the Chaingun and the BFG, neither of which looked like the in game versions. none of this really came as a suprise until I saw the ship that they boarded, which was little more than a souped up Helicopter. Upon arrival to the earth base, I expected there to be a high tech transport waiting.
Suprise #3: no. some how an elevator was in the middle of the desert, and a warp "bubble" if you will, was underground.
The movie continued on at an aganizing speen, with no real meaty plot. "orders to contain the threat by any means necissary" mission spirals out of control sort of thing. of course one of the marines has a sister working on mars, where his parents also died (by now I realized "these are two hours of my life that I will never get back...") the "demons" are not actually demons, and are rather just mutated scientists.
Suprise #4: there were no zombies, save 1 angry mob and one of the team members, but they were just breif OMG! moments, not "oh I'm gonna scream like a little girl right now" moments.
Of course, some how the sarge gets infected and everyone else dies, and only our hero (the marine w/ the sister) can win and solve this issue. then bing, the movie is over. One element that was an interesting take was the first person mode. while I did hear bad things about it, I believe that this mode should be taken as a serious movie stratagy for film recorders.
Over all I'd give it a 1 outta 5, not great, but smack a differet title on it before you seen it and it'll seem like a differnt movie.
Please post in response, it's always interesting to see other peoples perspective, unless they're your own.

Someone should put a spolier warning on this because even though it doesnt reveal too much, there are some parts his review gives up. |

Bad maybe? Really bad? Oh come one the directors wont even follow a game that their gonna make into a movie. All they care is about the money that their gonna get.Cant everyone see whats happening? The directors use the games title to lure in fans of the certain game and collect their money. Were bieng harvested. Just shun the next game turn movie. |

In the Halo movie I hope they get Gary Busey to play Master Chief,
but I can always settle for Christopher Walken as MC, "Covenant your talking to my marines all wrong, do it again and I'll stab you in the face with a soldering iron". BOX OFFICE SMASH!!!

Link for HALO movie details... http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/9599563/
Then again you coulda done the same google'ing it
P.S. Peter Jackson is producing it , not directing. Cant wait to see MC fight off the race of Orc and Uraki |
