hi, i downloaded a cool looking clutter model for 3ds max, but if i wanna convert it to v3d it says: filename must not cotain spaces(it dosnt has any spaces in it, and if i click ok: there comes another message: convert module failed

does anyone knows why this comes up ? and if so, how to solve it ?

BTW, the model i download was in .3DS format....

How many faces does it have?
Add the "Optimize" modifier to the mesh/poly and look at the "max count". (easiest way for you.. ) Thats the count of the faces (triangles) not polygons. Remove the modifier if you dont want your model optimized. (remove it from the modifiers list, dont collapse the mesh to "remove" it)
Sometimes people forget that polygons can be made of more than 3 vertecies, a face tough is made of 3 vertecies and 3 edges = a triangle. Red Faction uses this "units system". A mesh made of over 4000 faces will not work. It might work with simple meshes, but a mesh of 4000 faces can't be called simple

If you have too many faces on it, use the MultiRes modifier. Click on "generate" n then you can set the threshold or the percent of vertecies..
You'll see the max count and the count if applyed.

Save it straight into your hard drive then move it where you want it.

For some reason, CENSORED arsed volition made it so you can't save to a directory with spaces in it.

So, save it to C:\********.V3D.. then move it around.

I had this same problem. Are you exporting the model into the 3dsmax\ mesh folder? If i exported it anywhere else it would give me that error.
