I can't go into the "Create Game" area for Multi.... the game just crashes. Along with that, my game just randomly crashes once in a while, as well as boots me out "Because your data is incompatible" when the map changes sometimes as well. That last one is fixed by simply replacing my levelsm.vpp file with the one from RedFactionView, but I don't know why I have to do this, or what's causing the problem. The only thing I ever did to my game was use the No-CD patch, but I don't know how to get rid of the effects of that, so I don't know if that's the problem.
Anybody got any ideas?  |

Your game crashes when you go to the create game in multi?Look into all the sp and multi map folders and check for anything with a 0 kb file.Delete the file. |

You are right pred.. but a tip for you Johnny... Right click inside the folder and arrange the files by size... then look for the smallest file and delete it  |

do you have all the music files in the multi folder?
try putting them in the single folder as i think one of the music files from RFU4 caused this problem for me ... but i cant remember which as i deleted it as soon as i found out which was the problem |

Reinstall the game?
Start the game with clean folders? rename multi and single folder and create empty folders to replace them. Then try. |

To add to what REDFROG said, after you do all that and you still are afraid of using the No-CD crack then try the sensible alternative:
Lazy Ban 120
For REDFROG :
Note: This does not work on French or German versions. |

I just checked there's only one cfg file... players.cfg is that what you're talking about? What does it do? If I delete it what happens?

Red Faction will re-create a cfg file after u've started it. So you cant do anything wrong.
Have you tryed to re-install RF in a different (empty) folder?
Also try to remove the error.log
Useless logfile that grows by every gamecrash.

trim down your multi folder to less than 240 files and less than 1.86gig. that fixed mine |

I think it was the river requiem music file ... if i remember correctly it was actually the readme renamed as the music.vpp. it should be in the RFU4 posts, ill go have a look. hmmm couldnt find it but im pretty sure that was it |

I checked it out... I've only got 173 files for 1.2 GB.
Well since I moved the RFU4 music to my single folder, RF hasn't crashed, so I'm leaning towards that having been the problem. I don't really need the music files anyways, seeing as I enjoy listening to other music when I play RF, so it's all good. The game doesn't crash when I go to "Create Game" anymore either. I'm quite certain we found the problem. Thanks to everyone that helped, and of course to LordSeafood who actually nailed the problem on the head.  |
