I always play as Masako and never have any difficulty doing what parker can. I guess those Deathrun maps may also be a good test.
Quoting T-M-I-N-E | I can't get out of water at all. I knew there was the problem with P4s with HT that could be solved by running in 98 compatibility mode but this one has got me stumped. |
I had this problem when testing Single Play maps between different systems and OS's. If it makes any difference it was the Parker character. He will jump higher on an older OS such as 98/ME, than compared to XP and I don't know about NT. However, the systems also had vastly different hardware inside. The 98/ME machine was low-end 800Mhz, 4MB vid and the other machine was more mid range at 1.8Mhz with 64MB vid.
Quoting D2K | Parker may SEEM to jump higher because his collision spheres are bigger, did you not read my post? |
I read your post ... I don't think you need a head slam [frank?] but more like some happy pills. Within the one system collision spheres may well play a part in ability to effect gameplay, but I think the problem may be more broad. |
If I ever get to where I am going, will I know when I am there? |

Quoting D2k | *bangs head on table*
Look... parker does NOT jump higher than any other character... There is a MASTER jump value for EVERY character defined in the game.tbl it is 1.33...
Parker may SEEM to jump higher because his collision spheres are bigger, did you not read my post?
Since parker has a bigger collision sphere this not only means the angles are wider on the collision sphere itself, he stands a tiny bit taller than the rest, note that swimming characters appear swimming ONLY when 2 of the 3 collision spheres are submerged underwater, since other female characters or whatnot have their collision set up differently and there is the possibly that collision spheres that are colliding internally with one another are the cause of difficulty getting out of water, other than that their spheres are just smaller than parkers...
LISTEN and THINK this over with LOGIC... master jump value, different sized collision spheres, god, what kind of answer are you guys looking for? |
This makes sense to me ... since Masako is shorter her collision sphere is smaller, making her have a steeper angle than parker would at a height by their feet ... so parker could "slide" over that height easier.
You take a golf ball and try to roll it over a 3" bump ... doesn't work. if you take a Basketball and do it ... it will work better.
I can not think of a single reason why the systems of a computer would very the results of a controlled program. So there should be no difference between jump height on older and newer computers. |

lol D2k I know what you're feeling

You've said female characters have slight advantages to the male ones.
Thats true, thats why I don't like the way clanwars are played.
I always tryed to make all people play with the male characters, because only that would be fair. But if I look at UT2004...there are so many different playermodels and noone seems to give a CENSORED . But probably the clans use mutators and everyone uses the same model.
Female characters are smaller, fit in smaller geo holes (coffeebreak map for example), use less polys on the guns, lol and can walk through very thin areas. I never really liked it..
Guys that use female characters must be CENSORED |

It's not only the females that are so skinny though. The Medic is the same size and so is the guy Frank uses. So what's the point in complaining? They both have different advantages and frankly, I don't think the so-called "higher jump" of Parker helps at all. Now, fitting into small spaces.... THAT'S an advantage. |

I never liked it either and I might agree to the second part if given enough time.
Quoting Johnny_Suave | The Medic is the same size and so is the guy Frank uses. So what's the point in complaining? | Oh my little one, there is a reason to complain. Why play with a female character is you aren't a female character yourself?
Why confused us lonely players that are trying to get a date online while playing Red Faction.
You know the girls that play Red Faction are the hottest thing since...well since Red Faction.
Also I might add, I use the character I use because it's the one that best represent my personality. What does that say about male players that use female skins?

D2K dont think by me saying after your first post that i wanted to see actual proof that i didnt read your post ... as i did and it made sense to me. Thank you for the only replyer that actually answered my question.
My second post was to tell people that i wasnt looking for a visual test but rather what you suggested. and the collision spheres makes perfect sense in the deathrun world. It also says why people say use the parker skin as it "jumps higher" when it really just allows then to get a foothold easier.
Dont think your responce went by unnoticed |

That doesn't really do it for me though it's the best attempt so far.
A bit more detail. I was running a 1.2 Athlon with onboard 16 MB graphics back in the day that was upgraded to a crappy MX 400 series 64 MB graphics card (way back) and was eventually replaced with a snazzy 9800 pro. All this was done on the ME or Microsoft Error OS. This was upgraded to XP after getting the 9800 pro. All of these configurations ran RF fine. I did run RF in win 98 compatibility mode at the time but that was because of a crashing issue that was eventually tracked down elsewhere.
My new problem started with my new PC. It's still an Athlon but now it's an Athlon 64 3400+ and an X000 series graphics card.
The main things that have changed are the 64 bit proccesor and a PCI Express GFX card instead of the old AGP one(s).
The problem is that I can't jump out of water with any character. When at the surface of the water it kinda looks like it makes a little attempt at jumping but nothing really happens apart from the tiniest movement.
With jumping while on dry land I kinda noticed it seemed slower than used to be normal for me. It kind of seemed like I was floating a bit. It was so long since I'd played RF though (about 3 months) that I'd dismissed it as my imagination until a player I trust mentioned that my jump seemed off to him too. It was since mentioned by a few other players. The more I see it the more it seems screwed to me too. Going up is fine but I seem to gently float back to earth.
As the only new aspect is the 64 bit proccesor I'm inclined to lay the blame there but nobody else seems to have this specific problem.
[edit]I should say that I usually use the blue guard skin. You know the one, it's almost like the red Parker skin but blue. It's small enough to go anywhere any other skin can go and it saves going transvestite. |

HA HA HA HA HA. Thats funny when you read it the "right" way. I always thought the female characters would have the bigger spheres. Parker proved me wrong though! |
